A Day of Learning, Connections & Inspiration!
Our young BTAC members recently had the opportunity to visit the Mineral Resources (MinRes) Training Centre, thanks to our partnership with MinRes through the BTAC Employment Pathways Program — and what a day it was!
The visit started with a behind‑the‑scenes tour of the impressive facility, followed by delicious breakfast and engaging career conversations with industry leaders and experts who shared real insights into their career journeys. Members then rolled up their sleeves and jumped into hands‑on activities, from an exciting hazard hunt to trying their skills on operating simulators, all guided by the incredibly friendly and supportive MinRes team.
Midday brought a beautifully catered spread before the group headed off for a tour of the CarbonArt Centre, where they enjoyed an inspiring and insightful session with the team focused on innovation and sustainability initiatives.
It was a informative, motivating, and confidence‑building day, giving our young members practical exposure, new connections and a clearer picture of the many pathways available to them.
A huge thank you to Michelle Laylan at MinRes, and the wider MinRes team, for the warm hospitality and for making this experience so memorable for our young members.

The AAA Conference has now concluded. The conference offered a wide range of seminars and workshops that presented BTAC with opportunities to explore future research projects, potential collaboration, and related initiatives.

Members were able to socialise and engage with representatives from industry, academia, and other Aboriginal organisations from around the country. The positive insights and knowledge gained by members will undoubtedly filter back into the community.

A key takeaway from the week was the clear indication that industry is increasingly prioritising its obligations regarding submerged cultural heritage and Sea Country. This trend is evident across Australia and is being felt by multiple stakeholders. Some of our existing partners in industry were present for these seminars, and were observed to be vigorously taking notes…

Our existing collaborators, including Mick O’Leary and Peter Veth to name just two, are eager to remain involved and explore future projects into 2026. We also established promising new connections, such as with staff from the WA Maritime Museum.

Overall, the conference has set a strong foundation for meaningful partnerships and productive work in the year ahead.
