The best gold class sessions don’t come out of a textbook. They come from someone who actually works in the industry walking into a classroom and answering the questions kids really want to ask.

Later today our Education Manager Sam will be visiting Northern Star Resources to train the next group of Gold Class Facilitators as part of GIG’s National Gold Education Program.

Our facilitators are gold industry professionals who volunteer their time to step into classrooms, share their experiences and give students a firsthand look at the incredible diversity of careers across Australia’s gold industry.

And often, it’s those real stories and personal connections that make the biggest impression, helping young people see opportunities and career pathways they may never have considered.

Curious about booking a session? Check out the link in our bio to see what’s on offer.

Gold’s incredible density is one of the properties that makes it so unique.

Even a small volume can have a surprising amount of weight behind it, giving gold its distinctive feel when you hold it. ⚖️

Gold built this town. ✨

Take a walk down Burt Street in Boulder and you're walking through a piece of Western Australia's rich gold-mining history.

When gold was discovered in the Goldfields in the late 1800s, towns like Boulder grew rapidly as people arrived in search of opportunity. Businesses, hotels, shops and services followed, creating thriving communities around the goldfields.

The historic buildings that line Burt Street today are a reminder of that era and of the lasting impact gold has had on the people and communities of the Goldfields.

Because gold didn't just shape the mines. It helped shape the towns, businesses and communities that grew around them.

What does half a tonne of gold actually look like?

The Perth Mint has just cast the largest gold bar in the world: 521.2kg of 99.999% pure Australian gold, recognised by Guinness World Records in July.

It took around 1.5 tonnes of raw gold, a flameless chamber running at 1,400°C and more than 35 specialists across the refinery and assay laboratory to bring six large bars and several smaller ones together into a single piece, then a long, carefully controlled cooling period before it could be moved.

The record it broke had stood at 300 kilograms.

Curious to see it up close? You'll find it at The Perth Mint Refinery, on display as part of the Gold Tour
