🌐💛 Closing the Digital Gap: From “I Don’t Know How” to “I Can Do It Myself”

For many older people, everyday tasks like using email, accessing myGov or finding information online can feel daunting. But with a little patience, guidance, and encouragement, that uncertainty can turn into confidence.

Through CWCC Evergreen College’s latest Digital Skills Program, 16 participants learned practical skills they can use in everyday life. From navigating the internet and email and accessing important government services. Along the way, they gained something even more valuable: greater independence, new friendships, and the confidence to keep learning.

🌿 At CWCC, digital inclusion isn’t simply about knowing where to click. It’s about helping seniors stay connected, make their own choices, and confidently say, “I can do this myself.”

Would you know what to do if someone’s face suddenly drooped, their arm became weak, or their speech turned slurred?

During National Stroke Week, CWCC partnered with the Stroke Foundation to help our community recognise the warning signs of stroke and understand how acting F.A.S.T. could help save a life. Participants also learned about stroke risk factors and the everyday changes we can make to better protect our health.

🚨 F – Face. A – Arms. S – Speech. T – Time to call 000.

💛 At CWCC, health education is about giving people practical knowledge they can use when it matters most. By bringing trusted health information into familiar and welcoming community spaces, we’re helping seniors and families feel more informed, confident, and prepared.

💙 A Creative Pause for Our Amazing Carers

Sometimes, carers need a little time to recharge too. ☕✨

At our recent Carer Cuppa at CWCC Balcatta Community Hub, carers enjoyed a well-deserved break with a colourful DIY Bracelet Workshop, a chance to relax, get creative, and connect with others who understand the caring journey.

🌈 With colourful beads, plenty of laughter, and conversations flowing, everyone created their own unique bracelet while sharing stories and making new friendships. We were especially delighted to welcome several carers joining Carer Cuppa for the very first time! 😊

More than just a creative activity, Carer Cuppa is a welcoming space to connect, share experiences, discover helpful resources, and find support when you need it. 🤝💙

Because when you spend so much time caring for others, making a little time for yourself matters too. 🌿

Thank you to everyone who joined us. We look forward to another cuppa, another conversation, and another chance to connect. ☕💬

🛡️💛 Do you know your rights as you grow older?

Knowing your rights isn't just about understanding the aged care system. It's about having the confidence to speak up, make your own choices, and live life with dignity.

That's why CWCC partnered with Advocare to help seniors and their families better understand aged care services, recognise the signs of elder abuse, and access the support available to them. The sessions also highlighted the importance of culturally appropriate care, helping participants feel informed, respected, and empowered.

💛 At CWCC, we believe every older person deserves to feel heard, respected, and confident in the choices they make about their care and future.

🎄✨ Christmas in July: One Big Family, Countless Happy Memories ✨🎄

There’s something special about bringing people together over good food, laughter, and a little friendly competition.

This year's Christmas in July celebration at our Balcatta Community Hub was our biggest yet, with staff, family members, and special guests from Chung Wah Association coming together for an evening of festive cheer and community spirit.

🍽️ The celebration began with a delicious multicultural feast, as everyone proudly shared their favourite homemade dishes. From traditional Chinese family recipes to much-loved Western classics and other cultural favourites, every meal reflected the diversity, generosity, and friendship that make our CWCC community so special.

🎤 As the evening unfolded, the laughter only grew louder. Karaoke favourites filled the room, while this year's expanded line-up of games (added by popular demand) had everyone, from the youngest family members to the young at heart, joining in the fun. Whether it was stacking cups, balloon cup blow-off, or cheering each other on, the room was filled with unforgettable moments, plenty of laughter, and just the right amount of friendly competition.

💚 More than a celebration, the evening was a reminder that at CWCC, we're more than colleagues. We're a community that supports one another, celebrates together, and creates lasting memories.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who prepared a dish, organised activities, joined the games, and helped make this our biggest and most memorable Christmas in July celebration yet. We can’t wait to celebrate together again next year!
