About Chung Wah Community Care
Chung Wah Community Care (CWCC), under the umbrella of the Chung Wah Association, supports culturally and linguistically diverse communities across Perth. We provide government-funded, culturally appropriate aged care and disability services to more than 1,200 older people and individuals with disabilities from vibrant cultural backgrounds, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Cambodian and other ethnic communities. Our focus is on reablement, independence, and personalised care. Our diverse team of staff, support workers, and volunteers represent more than 20 cultural backgrounds, embracing every culture with the same respect. Together, we work towards our vision of creating “A Better Community for All.”

Our Services:
Support at Home: Nursing, personal care, transport, meals, social support, and more—helping people live safely and independently at home. Community Hubs (Willetton & Balcatta): Daily exercise, social activities, entertainment, and nutritious meals in a welcoming environment. Evergreen College: Wellness and enrichment programs including Tai Chi, brain games, calligraphy, English, cooking, excursions, and digital skills.

🌸🌿 A Spring Day Among the Flowers: Enjoying Life Together
🌸🌿 繁花盛放的春日：一起享受生活

Sometimes, the best days are the simplest: a beautiful view, a cup of coffee, and good friends to share it with.

Spring was in full bloom as CWCC Evergreen College organised three outings to Kings Park, giving our seniors a chance to enjoy Perth’s colourful wildflowers, explore the outdoors, and spend a relaxing day together. From strolls and photo stops to coffee breaks and a delicious Cantonese lunch, they enjoyed every moment at their own pace, with plenty of laughter and companionship along the way.

💛 For our seniors, it’s not about how far you walk or where you go, but the joy of having someone to share the journey with.

Through Evergreen College, CWCC continues to create opportunities for older people to stay active, discover new places, build friendships, and enjoy life's simple pleasures: because every outing is another chance to feel connected and belong.

🎂🌸 Birthday Wishes & Springtime Smiles!
🌸🎂 庆祝生日，迎接春天！

What a party! Our quarterly birthday celebrations at CWCC’s Balcatta and Willetton Hubs were filled with laughter, music and good vibes. 🎶🥳

Our birthday stars gathered to celebrate another year of life, friendship and wonderful memories. There were birthday songs, wishes to be made and, of course, beautiful birthday cakes ready to be cut and shared! 🎂✨ Because no birthday celebration is quite complete without a slice of cake (or perhaps two!). 😋

With spring in the air, it was also the perfect time to look forward to a new season filled with fresh hopes, good health and more happy moments together. 🌷☀️

🌕💛 Celebrating Together: Finding a Sense of Home This Mid-Autumn
🌕💛 欢聚一堂：在这个中秋，找到家的感觉

What does “reunion” mean when family or the place you once called home may be far away?

This Mid-Autumn Festival, CWCC brought seniors, volunteers and friends together across our Balcatta, Willetton and Bayswater hubs, as well as at the City of Vincent’s multicultural celebration. Through dancing and tai chi, mooncakes and home-cooked dishes, cultural traditions and plenty of laughter, each celebration had its own flavour — but they all shared the same feeling of connection.

🏮 For older migrants, reunion doesn’t always have to mean returning to somewhere far away. Sometimes, it’s a familiar face greeting you, a homemade dish on a shared table, or a room full of people who are simply glad you’re there.

当家人或曾经的家园远在他方，「团圆」又意味着什么？

今年中秋，中华社区服务（CWCC）在巴卡达、威乐顿和贝斯沃特三个中心，以及文森特区的多元文化庆祝活动上，与长者、义工和朋友欢聚一堂。有舞蹈和太极，有月饼和住家小菜，有文化传统，也有此起彼落的欢笑声。每场庆祝各有特色，但同样洋溢着人与人之间的连系。

🏮 对年长的移民来说，团圆未必一定要回到远方。有时候，团圆就是一张熟悉的笑脸、餐桌上一道亲手做的菜，又或是满室的人，单纯为你的出现而高兴。

💛 有时候，家的感觉，就在我们的社区之中。

👁️💛 When Eyesight Affects Safety: Looking After More Than Our Vision
👁️💛 当视力影响安全：护眼，不只是为了看得清楚

When we think about eyesight, we often think about reading clearly or recognising faces. But as we get older, changes in our vision can also affect something just as important: our safety and independence.

At CWCC’s recent “Check Your Eyesight” health talks, community members learned about common age-related eye conditions, the importance of regular eye checks, and how changes in depth, distance and peripheral vision can increase the risk of trips and falls. Supported through Injury Matters’ Remove Hazards program, the sessions also shared practical ways to make the home safer, from better lighting to keeping pathways clear.

🌿 Delivered in English and Chinese, the talks turned important health information into simple steps people can use in everyday life, because looking after our eyesight can also mean moving with greater confidence and staying independent for longer.

💛 At CWCC, we’re helping our seniors turn health knowledge into action for safer, healthier and more confident ageing.

说到视力，我们通常想到的是看书看得清楚，或者认得出别人的样子。但随着年纪渐长，视力的变化同样会影响另一样重要的事：我们的安全和自主生活能力。

中华社区服务（CWCC）早前举办的「关爱视力」健康讲座，让社区成员认识常见的老年眼疾、定期检查眼睛的重要性，以及深度、距离和周边视力的变化如何增加绊倒和跌倒的风险。讲座由 Injury Matters 的 Remove Hazards 计划支持，同场亦分享了多项令家居更安全的实用方法，由改善照明到保持通道畅通。

🌿 讲座以英语和中文进行，把重要的健康资讯化成日常生活中简单可行的步骤。因为好好护理视力，也代表着行动更有信心，可以更长时间保持自主生活。

🌿💛 Care That Honours the Person, Right to the End
🌿💛 有尊严的照顾，一路相伴到最后

What does good end-of-life care really look like? Sometimes, it means helping someone continue doing the things they love, surrounded by the people and community that matter to them.

Through CWCC’s participation in the ELDAC - End of Life Directions for Aged Care Linkages Program, we had the opportunity to reflect on one of these deeply meaningful journeys, supporting a much-loved Balcatta Community Hub member through palliative care while helping her stay connected to the friendships, activities, and familiar surroundings that brought her joy.

Her experience has also helped CWCC strengthen staff training, care practices, partnerships, and our work in Advance Care Planning, particularly for culturally and linguistically diverse communities.

💛 At the heart of it is something simple but important: end-of-life care is not only about managing health needs. It is about respecting the person, their wishes, their culture, and what gives their life meaning.

真正好的临终照顾是怎样的？有时候，就是让一个人继续做自己喜欢的事，身边有着重要的人和熟悉的社区。

中华社区服务（CWCC）参与 ELDAC Linkages Program 期间，有机会回顾其中一段别具意义的旅程：一位深受大家爱戴的巴卡达社区中心成员，在接受安宁疗护的同时，我们陪伴她继续维系友谊、参与活动，留在带给她快乐的熟悉环境之中。

她的经历也让 CWCC 在员工培训、照顾服务、伙伴合作，以及预立医疗照护方面更加完善，特别是为来自不同文化及语言背景的社区人士提供服务时。

💛 当中的道理简单而重要：临终照顾不只是处理健康上的需要，更是尊重一个人、尊重他们的意愿、文化，以及令他们生命变得有意义的一切。

Did you know that Chinese migrants played an important role in the early development of Bayswater and Perth?

Join us for a special afternoon to uncover the stories of the people who came before us. Learn how they built new lives in Western Australia, contributed to local agriculture, market gardening, commerce, and community life, and overcame the challenges they faced along the way.

🎤 Kaylene P**n, Chung Wah Association Historian, will take us back through this fascinating chapter of local history, sharing stories of migration, resilience, leadership and the legacy early Chinese communities have left behind.

🫁 Looking After Our Lung Health
🫁 关注肺部健康，从了解开始

When it comes to our health, knowing what to watch for and when to act can make a real difference. 💙

This week, CWCC Willetton Hub welcomed Dr Sadhana and representatives from the Ethnic Communities Council of WA, ECCWA) for a Lung Health & Lung Cancer Screening Awareness Workshop.

The session introduced the National Lung Cancer Screening Program and helped older community members learn more about lung health, lung cancer, and why early screening matters.

We had 68 community members and visitors join us. There were lots of questions, lively conversations, and enthusiastic participation. Everyone enjoyed interactive surveys, lucky draws, and some small giveaways.🎁😊

Most importantly, everyone left with more knowledge and confidence to take care of their health.🌿

Thank you to ECCWA, Dr Sadhana, and everyone who joined us for another valuable afternoon of learning together.🙏💙

❤️🌿 Healthy Hearts, Stronger Communities
❤️🌿 心脏健康，社区更强壮

When it comes to heart health, the best time to start looking after your heart is before problems appear.

That was one of the important messages shared at CWCC’s recent Healthy Heart Talk, where cardiologist Dr Gerald Yong joined more than 40 community members to discuss heart disease, blood pressure, cholesterol, lifestyle risks, and the everyday choices that can help protect our hearts. Delivered in Cantonese, the session made complex health information easier to understand and put into practice.

🩺 Participants could also receive free blood pressure checks and health consultations, turning what they learned into a practical opportunity to better understand their own health.

💛 At CWCC, we believe healthy ageing begins with knowledge and confidence. By making trusted health information more accessible and culturally relevant, we’re helping our community take an active role in their wellbeing, one healthy choice at a time.

谈到心脏健康，最好的开始时间，就是在问题出现之前。

这正是中华社区服务（CWCC）早前举办的健康心脏讲座上，其中一个重要讯息。心脏科专科 Dr Gerald Yong 与超过 40 位社区成员一同探讨心脏病、血压、胆固醇、生活习惯上的风险，以及日常生活中有助保护心脏的选择。讲座以广东话进行，让复杂的健康资讯变得更易理解，也更容易在生活中实践。

🩺 参加者还可以接受免费血压检查和健康谘询，将学到的知识化为实际行动，更了解自己的身体状况。
