UWA Barry Marshall MicroBlitz Internship

The UWA Barry Marshall MicroBlitz Internship program is a joint initiative between Professor Barry Marshall (Nobel Laurette 2005) and Dr Andrew Whiteley (Premier's Fellow 2012, and previously director of the MicroBlitz Citizen Science Project at UWA). The internship is a legacy project, which aims to combine, for selected UWA students, both the experience of working in an operational laboratory with mentoring and experience in community engagement.

Emma introduces us to the Citizen Science project: 'Maturity of Baby Sounds' - a fun project that you can do to help understand baby vocalizations to help scientists identify children with developmental delays in speech. Early intervention is key when helping children meet developmental milestones. Well Done Emma

Next up in the Citizen Science Vlog series is Moeka who participated in 'Etch a Cell - Fat Checker', which is helping researchers train computers to identify components of cells, including fat cells. This is an important development to increase the pace at which cells can be analysed and in this case to understand the role that fat cells & lipids have in the development of diseases. Well done Moeka for showcasing this project.
