We're inviting Perth's Spanish-speaking community to join us for a FREE morning at the movies!

Come along to Umbrella's Spanish Film Festival for a special screening of La Vida Padre, complete with complimentary morning tea and the opportunity to connect with others who share your language and culture.

Umbrella named For-Purpose (Not-for-Profit) of the Year at the 2026 Bayswater Business Awards 🏆

We are incredibly proud to announce that Umbrella Multicultural Community Care Services has been awarded For-Purpose (Not-for-Profit) of the Year at the City of Bayswater's inaugural Bayswater Business Awards, held on Saturday, 10 October 2026.

This prestigious recognition acknowledges Umbrella's ongoing commitment to supporting culturally and linguistically diverse communities and fostering inclusion, connection and wellbeing across Western Australia.

As we celebrate our 25th anniversary, this achievement holds particular significance. It reflects a quarter of a century of dedication to building a more inclusive community, where people of all cultural backgrounds feel respected, supported and valued.

This award is a testament to the collective efforts of our dedicated staff, volunteers, Board members, community partners and supporters, whose contributions continue to shape our organisation and strengthen the communities we are privileged to serve.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the City of Bayswater for this recognition and to Coventry Village, the proud sponsor of the For-Purpose (Not-for-Profit) of the Year award category, for supporting the celebration of organisations making a meaningful contribution to our community.

We also congratulate all fellow award recipients and finalists for their achievements and contributions to the local community.

We are honoured to receive this award and look forward to continuing our work towards a more inclusive, connected and welcoming community for all.

Yesterday was National Pierogi Day! 🥟

Our Internet Cafe were shown the art of making pierogi dough from scratch, and then had the chance to add the fillings. Afterwards, everyone enjoyed a lovely meal together 🫶

Meet Our Volunteers!✨

Introducing Liudmyla!

After moving to Australia four years ago from Ukraine, Liudmyla was eager to continue her lifelong passion for helping others by joining Umbrella’s volunteer team.

Through the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS), Liudmyla visits a Ukrainian resident in aged care, offering warm companionship and comfort in their shared native language. Beyond her visits, she was actively involved with our Volunteer Hub; sharing her journey with new volunteers, practicing her English, and building meaningful connections across diverse cultures.

📣An important update for our Support at Home clients📣

From 1 October 2026, the Australian Government has moved personal care services under the Support at Home program to the Clinical Supports contribution category.

Personal care services have moved from the Independence contribution category to the Clinical Supports contribution category.

What does this mean for you?

If personal care is included in your approved support plan and you have available Support at Home funding, you will no longer need to pay a participant contribution for personal care services delivered from 1 October 2026.

Personal care can include help with:
🌟showering
🌟 dressing
🌟personal hygiene
🌟 eating
🌟continence support
🌟assistance with taking your medication

Your personal care services will still be paid for from your available Support at Home budget.

Please note that personal care services delivered before 1 October 2026 may still have a participant contribution under the previous arrangements.

If you are unsure what this change means for you, please speak with your Umbrella Care Partner. They can explain how the change applies to your individual services and budget.

Today, on International Day of Older Persons, we honour the people whose lives, stories, cultures and experiences have helped shape the communities we share.

Ageing is not simply about growing older. It is about a lifetime of memories, knowledge, relationships, contribution and identity.

At Umbrella, we are privileged to walk alongside older people from many cultures, languages and backgrounds. Every day, we are reminded that meaningful ageing is about far more than receiving support - it is about being seen, heard, respected and remaining connected to the people, traditions and communities that make us who we are.

Today is also a reminder that dignity, choice, belonging and respect should never diminish with age. Every person deserves the opportunity to grow older while maintaining their independence, culture, language and identity.

To the older people across our Umbrella community and beyond: thank you for everything you have contributed, everything you continue to share, and for the trust you place in those who walk alongside you.

May we continue creating communities where ageing is valued, diversity is celebrated, and every person knows they belong.

Earlier this week was National Online Learning Day 💻

Every Thursday, our Internet Café empowers older adults to build digital skills and confidence in a warm, café-style environment. Through personalised, hands-on guidance, participants learn to navigate smartphones, tablets, video calling, and everyday applications ✨

Online safety is also central to the program, equipping clients to recognise scams, safeguard personal data, and securely access online banking and health services🌐

By combining digital literacy training with morning tea and peer connection, the Internet Café bridges the digital divide; fostering independence, protecting against financial exploitation, and keeping seniors safely connected 🫶
