We meet once a month from February to November at the Mount Claremont Community Centre in Montgomery Crescent, Mount Claremont. During the meeting we have a library access time where members can borrow from our extensive range of calligraphy and craft books. We have a short general meeting followed by a talk or demonstration, a show and tell and a practical hands-on calligraphy session. Exhibitions
The Guild endeavours to exhibit members’ works as often as is possible. All members, regardless of experience or skill may enter work in our exhibitions. As well as our group exhibitions, the Guild encourages the calligraphy display at the Perth Royal Show every year, by sponsoring the calligraphy section prize money and demonstrating calligraphy. Workshops
The Guild regularly holds workshops for members and guests alike with subjects ranging from calligraphic hands, techniques for decorating backgrounds, digital calligraphy, colour and media. We’re excited to share the first artwork from guild members as part of the Bestiary project!

It’s been incredible to see everyone’s creativity come to life, and this is just the beginning. A special shoutout to Doug Hughes for helping bring such a strong and inspiring result together.

Stay tuned—there’s plenty more to come.

The first meeting of the calligraphic year, “The Bestiary Project”, was presented by Gaye Godfrey-Nicholls.

Members were treated to an inspiring and visually rich presentation that explored the fascinating world of medieval manuscripts and decorative lettering inspired by animals.

Gaye shared her creative process, from initial sketches and layout planning to the careful use of pen, ink, and colour to bring each piece to life.

The session also included practical tips on composition, spacing, and decorative borders. Members left with fresh ideas and enthusiasm to continue their own Bestiary-inspired works.

COMING SOON! Our first workshop of 2026 is not to be missed! More information on our website. Link in bio.

Jane Scurr’s entry for this year Perth Royal Show.

Jane, who is a nurse, noticed posters about hidden disabilities around the hospital where she works. From the posters, she learned that the “sunflower” is the symbol for hidden disabilities. By wearing a sunflower 🌻 lanyard, pin or wristband, this is a signal to others that the wearer may need more time, assistance or understanding.
