Kaya everyone!

Wungening are proud to announce we will be attending the Deadly Jobs Expo held at Metropolitan TAFE Rockingham campus!

The Expo will provide an opportunity for employers, training providers, community organisations, and jobseekers to connect in a meaningful and supportive environment.

As a leading ACCO across Boorloo, come and yarn to our friendly team about what it's like to work at a proudly Aboriginal Not-For-profit dedicated to helping our wider community.

See you there!

This National Carers week, we're shining a spotlight on our foster carers Steve and Nat.

While care takes many forms, our foster carers open their hearts and homes around the clock to provide safety, love, and stability to koolangka who need it most. It is a role that requires immense empathy, patience, and resilience.

To all the foster carers working with us: thank you for the life-changing care you provide every single day.

You make our community safer, brighter and stronger for the future of our young ones.

As a proud First Nations organisation, is dedicated to nurturing and celebrating the artistic potential of emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander performers.

Founded by Charley Caruso, Della Rae Morrison, Simon Stewart and Dr Elisa Williams, Boss Arts Creative was made to fill the distinct gap and lack of First nations students who were specialised in dance, singing and music. They realized that many First Nations children lack access to early training in these art forms, which children from other cultures in Australia often have. This training is often necessaryto enter prestigious institutions, leaving First Nations young people at a disadvantage.

Charley Caruso, recalls having young mob approach her, claiming they wanted to sing like her, that founded a passion.

Mental Health Month is held in October every year, with World Mental Health Day taking place on the 10th.

This is an important moment to raise awareness of mental health, reduce stigma and encourage people to seek support when they need it.

It’s also an opportunity to pause, check in with ourselves and those around us, and reflect on how we can look after our own mental health and wellbeing.

Whether at home, at work, at school, in the community or online, this Mental Health Month we're encouraging everyone to start conversations, share their stories and strengthen the connections that help us thrive.

Yesterday we attended the 2026 Midland NAIDOC Community Event, and what a deadly day it was!

With Kambarang season in full swing, the weather was warm, koolangkas were laughing, bellies were full and our community was celebrated!

Thank you to all who organised and to our moorditj staff who put together our Wungening stall.

See you next year!

Meet Janelle.

As a part of our ReSet program, Janelle approached Wungening to help her mitigate and break down the barriers she faced when it came down to leaving prison, to completely reset her new life outside of it.

As an adult reintegration service provider, Wungening has helped Janelle and many other incarcerated maaman and yorgas to:
- Address alcohol and/or drug use;
- Improve parenting skills;
- Prepare for, and find, work;
- Find a safe place to live;
- Adjust to life on the outside.

Last week two of our staff members Krystal Yarran and Renee Taiatini attended the AIFS Conference 2026 in Melbourne on Wurundjeri country to present some learnings from the Wungening’s Re-Imagining Wooree Miya project, our Family and Domestic Violence housing program and project.

The topic was Child-level protective factors: An ACCO-led approach to engaging children and young people in FDV spaces.

They shared insights on Aboriginal self-determination, working alongside Elders, ethical challenges of working in trauma spaces and how we can design programs and spaces for child engagement.

The presentation was well received and afterwards, they had the opportunity to hear some of the exciting research and community projects happening around the country.

Are you after free legal advice?

Every Wednesday the moorditj staff from Legal Aid WA hold drop in sessions at our East Perth Hub for any mob who may have some questions or legal concerns.

Each week covers a different legal concern/topic area, and we invite all who are interested or need any legal questions answered to attend.
