Sometimes the smallest thing can start an important conversation.

Crazy Socks 4 Docs is a reminder to look beyond the polished professional exterior and check in with the doctors and medical students around us.

Medicine can make it easy to keep going, stay composed and say “I’m fine” when things are far from fine. A pair of bright socks will not fix that, but it can create a moment to ask a better question, start a real conversation, or remind someone they are not alone.

This June, wear your crazy socks, check in with a colleague, and take doctors’ health seriously all year round.

“Bunker mode” is real.

The lead-up to exams can feel isolating — especially when everything outside medicine keeps moving.

It’s normal to feel disconnected during this phase.

You’re not doing it wrong. You’re in it.

Who’s in your bunker right now?

Seeing a GP as a doctor isn’t always simple.

Confidentiality. Boundaries. Being understood.

These are real barriers.

The DHASWA Doctors Access List connects you with GPs who understand the realities of medical practice and prioritise care for doctors.

This is access designed for you.

Fatigue isn’t just uncomfortable — it’s a safety issue.

Especially when you’re working late, studying late, or both.

Caffeine helps in the moment, but timing matters:
Too close to sleep → disrupted recovery → cumulative fatigue.

Managing your rhythm is a clinical skill.

Save this — and actually test it on your next roster.

There’s always more you could be doing.

That’s why rest feels uncomfortable.

But pushing through on empty doesn’t make you more effective — it just delays the cost.

Rest isn’t a reward.
It’s fuel.

What does “rest” actually look like for you this week?

Supporting doctors’ health in regional WA.

This week, Dr Sarah Newman visited The Surgery in Albany to present on the unique T’s and S’s of treating doctor-patients.

The session explored the practical structures, sensitivities and risks involved when doctors provide care to colleagues, alongside the specific barriers rural doctors may face when accessing confidential healthcare.

There is more work to do, but conversations like this are an important step in strengthening access to safe, appropriate and confidential care for doctors across WA.

If your practice is interested in learning more about supporting doctor-patients, contact the DHASWA team at [email protected]

It’s easy to feel like your worth moves with your marks.

It doesn’t.

A grade measures performance — not your capability, not your future, not who you are as a doctor.

What actually matters:
• how you think
• how you relate
• how you recover

Send this to the one person who needs it this week.

You don’t have to wait for things to escalate.

The DHASWA Advice Line isn’t just for emergencies.

It’s for:
• exam stress
• performance anxiety
• pressure that’s building, not breaking

Speaking to another doctor early is a strategy — not a last resort.

Save the number now — not when things escalate.

When things go wrong – navigating adverse events, complaints and notifications
Live webinar: Wed, 20 May, 7pm - 8pm AEST

When things go wrong for doctors - what happens next?
Complaints, adverse events and notifications are part of medical practice, and they often bring distress, doubt and uncertainty about what to do next.

This session focuses on what it’s like to go through this, and what actually helps.

We’ll cover:
• what it feels like in the moment and how to get through it
• how complaints and mandatory notifications work, including key differences in WA
• how to support a colleague and where to get help.

With Dr Margaret Kay (Doctors’ Health Alliance) and Professor Helen Wilcox (Doctors’ Health Advisory Service, WA.
Live Q&A. 1 hour CPD (self-recorded).

If you’ve seen this happen, or wondered how you’d handle it, this webinar will help you.
You’ll feel more prepared, understand what’s normal, and know where to turn for help.
