The City of Wanneroo encompasses an area of 684 square kilometers. Wanneroo Central Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade provides a fire prevention and suppression service for the municipality with the exception of areas under the care and control of the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions (DBCA) and the gazetted fire districts controlled by the WA Fire and Rescue Service. The bush firefighting area consists of coastal dunes and gently undulating sand country with numerous outcrops of limestone and caprock. The vegetation of the district includes large areas of pine plantations, swamps, heavy bush areas, rural properties and buildings. Wanneroo Central Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade consists of about 80 volunteer members who respond 24/7, 365 days of the year. The brigade has its own turnout area, meaning they provide the only fire suppression response for a variety of Wanneroo localities, such as Pinjar, Nowergup, Carabooda, and parts of Mariginiup and Jandabup. Assistance is also provided to the WA Fire and Rescue Service and DBCA for fires in their response areas. Over the years the brigade has met the needs of a changing community to develop into what is now an efficient and professional volunteer fire brigade which can go from mounting an attack on a bush or wildfire to aiding in storm relief and community events. The Wanneroo Central firefighting fleet consists of 2 Light Tanker 4x4 units and 2 Heavy Duty appliances (a 3.4 Urban and 4.4 Rural Tanker). Overall, the City of Wanneroo Fire Services crew and maintain 5x Light Tanker units (4x4), 4x Heavy Duty Tankers (4x4), 1x 12.2 Bulk Water Tanker, 1x Fire Support Vehicle, 1x Incident Control Vehicle, 1x Collar Tank Trailer, 3x BBQ Trailers, 1x Community Asset Resource Trailer (CART) and 1x Canteen Trailer. 🚒🔥 Mitigation Burn – Community Working Together 🔥🚒

This Sunday, 20 September, members from Wanneroo Central BFB, alongside crews from Quinns Rocks BFB, Two Rocks BFB and North Coastal BFB, will be assisting a local resident with a planned mitigation burn at Rustic Gardens in Carramar Rural.

📍 Location: Rustic Gardens, Carramar Rural (near Evergreen Gardens)
�🕘 Start Time: 9:00am

The purpose of this burn is to:

✅ Reduce fuel loads and help lower bushfire risk�✅ Support the long-term health of the local environment�✅ Rejuvenate and promote native vegetation growth

These planned burns play an important role in protecting our community while helping maintain healthy bushland for future generations.

A big thank you to all volunteer firefighters and community members involved in making our local area safer. 👏🚒

🚒 FIRE BREAKS – ARE YOURS TRUCK-READY? 🚒

Your fire break might look perfect from the driver's seat of a mower... but will a fire truck fit through it?

Our appliances need: ✅ 3 metres wide clearance ✅ 4 metres vertical clearance ✅ Gentle bends and turning room (we're firefighters, not Formula 1 drivers!)

If your fire break is too narrow, overgrown, or has sharp 90° corners, getting a truck through during an emergency can be a real challenge. Every metre counts when time matters.

Take a few minutes to check your property and make sure your fire breaks comply with the current Fire Break Notice.

💛 R U OK? Day 2026 💛

Today is a reminder that a simple conversation can make a real difference.

At Wanneroo Centrals Bush Fire Brigade, our volunteers proudly serve the community, responding to bush fires and supporting each other through challenging situations. While we train hard and work together as a team, it's important to remember that everyone carries their own challenges, both seen and unseen.

This R U OK? Day, we encourage everyone to take a moment to check in with the people around them. Ask your family, friends, colleagues, neighbours, fellow volunteers, and emergency service personnel a simple question:

"Are you OK?"

Whether someone volunteers in fire and emergency services, community groups, sporting clubs, charities, or any other organisation, knowing that someone cares enough to ask can mean more than you realise.

To all volunteers everywhere, thank you for your dedication, commitment, and the countless hours you give to supporting others and strengthening our communities.

Let's look after each other, not just today, but every day.

🎉 Welcome and congratulations to our new recruits! 🎉

This weekend, we were proud to welcome a new intake of recruits from Wanneroo Central Bush Fire Brigade and one from Quinns Rocks Bush Fire Brigade as they began their journey toward becoming qualified bushfire fighters. 🚒🔥

👏 So far, it’s been fantastic to see everyone progressing and passing their training—well done to you all! A huge thank you also goes out to our dedicated team of volunteers who have supported and guided these recruits every step of the way, to get to this point. Your commitment makes all the difference. 🙌

We also had another recruit commence training last weekend in a course hosted by Quinns Rocks BFB—great work, and thank you for your ongoing support! 💪
