Roger resides in Geraldton and is showing an eclectic variety of works not seen before in Fremantle. His work has not been shown in Fremantle since 2011, Given excellent draughting skills his career has included Blackboard advertising in the 80’s throughout the Matilda Bay Brewery hotels. He was chosen as the Ships’ Artist for the Endeavour Replica World Tour in 1996, an exhibition of those pieces was shown at the Opening of the Fremantle Festival the following year.
Having grown up in Geraldton Roger was introduced early to sailing, and has been a lifelong sailor and also worked on the ocean in driving a mooring line boat on the Fremantle Harbour, and Crayfishing boats and Trawlers and has lived and been a frequent visitor on the Abrolhos Islands. Thus has the ocean figured heavily and often in his art which features sailing vessels, historic and contemporary, he loves a sailing boat! To the point he called his own yacht Aloha his “wife” until she tragically sank off the Zuytdorp Cliffs while sailing to Shark Bay Subsequently he and his brother, Kim, spent 5 1/2 hours in the water until rescued by a Kalbarri fishing boat.
Roger’s works represent a summation of a broad reflection on where his eye and imagination have flowed and intrigued his interests and fascinations. Imperative viewing
