We wrapped up our final men’s group for 2025 on the 13th of December — and what a year it’s been.

We’ve now been running for over 12 months, and these are my three biggest takeaways from the year:

We all wear masks.
Every man does. What matters is having a space where those masks can safely come off, without judgement or pressure to perform.

You’re not alone.
So many of the struggles men carry feel deeply personal — until they’re spoken out loud. Sharing reminds us how human, and how similar, our experiences really are.

Perspective changes everything.
It’s easy to get stuck in what’s hard. Naming it allows us to zoom out, gain clarity, and see ourselves and our lives more clearly.

I’m grateful for the honesty, courage, and trust that showed up in the room this year.

Looking ahead to 2026 with a lot of respect for this work and the men who step into it.

Perspective:

The big theme from this session was perspective. When we stripped back the day-to-day noise, it was clear that we’re all living with a lot of privilege — yet it’s still so easy to get caught up in the small stuff and lose sight of the bigger picture.

The antidote? Acknowledging that our challenges are still real and valid, even if they seem small compared to someone else’s, and remembering to zoom out occasionally, so we don’t get stuck in the weeds.

Big thanks to the blokes who showed up and shared openly. Can't wait for the next one!

Fremantle's loss got you down? Don't worry, Ferndale Men's Group won't judge you for still being salty about it in 2 weeks. Next session is on the 20th of September.

Yesterday’s session was one of the most powerful we’ve ever had. The guys dug deep, working through long-held childhood wounds with honesty and courage.

This week’s question - What scripts are on repeat in your mind? That question revealed some of the masks we wear every day:

The laid-back bloke who “doesn’t mind” but deep down never feels heard.

The calm, collected man quietly battling a tidal wave of anxiety.

The outgoing, friendly guy who wonders if people would still want him around if they really knew him.

Instead of sharing a photo of the men, I chose a picture of the talking stick we use each week. One end is carved into a fist, the other into an open palm: A reminder of the dichotomy of life and this session, that symbol felt truer than ever.

Grateful for these men who show up, go deep, and share courageously. I cannot wait for the next session. If you missed this session, fear not: The next session is the 20th of September.

Another really solid session with these blokes last weekend when we dug deep into what's honestly going on for us. The two themes that really showed up were anger and forgiveness.

Where does our anger come from, what place does it have in our lives and what is our relationship with our anger.

Forgiving ourselves for the mistakes we make and forgiving others for the hurt they may have caused us.

Cannot wait to sit down again in a few weeks and dig into more of these meaningful conversations.

And that's a wrap! 6 months ago I decided to challenge myself to hit 350 kg between my deadlift and squat, and after deciding that wasn't enough for me, I moved it to 500 kg across squat, bench press and deadlift. When I started, I knew it was going to be a challenge, but I don't think anyone could have prepared me for exactly how gruelling the training can truly be! Admittedly, my squat may not have been competition depth, but thankfully I'm not competing!

Like I said in my last video I have a new found respect for all athletes of all levels that compete in powerlifting. The focus and dedication to improving just 3 movements inch by inch, plate by plate is phenomenal and should be celebrated. I could in no way have ever achieved this without the fantastic Coach Josiah who has dealt with my incessant questions and push-backs on why I shouldn't max out on a deload week when I'm feeling good. 😅

While I am immensely proud of my achievement, it hasn't come without challenges personally, particularly with the additional time spent at the gym, the highs and lows of setting new records or failing old ones, and the changes in my body as it has adapted to the training regime. I can wholeheartedly say that I would have never made it through without the support of my beautiful wife and her everlasting patience. She has been and always will be my number 1 supporter, and I can never fully express how grateful I am to have her in my corner.

What's next for me? Very little! I'm hoping to shift some of this extra weight as I've gained around 10 kg (not all of it muscle - 15% up to 20% body fat percentage now!) and generally just take some load off of my body. Massive thank you to everyone who has ever spotted me on bench press or squat and an honourable mention to the 3 pairs of shorts I split as part of the journey!

A group of people who are considered as a unit because of their common interests and background.

We may not all come from the same place, but we're more similar than we are different. Another great session with the guys today.

Missed out this month? We're back next month, Saturday the 28th of June.

Another fantastic session at the Ferndale Men's Group: Real conversations, real stories and a real good time. I am slightly terrified of our venue after my phone's prompt on the second photo though 😅 👀👻
