Canine Welfare Australia

Canine Welfare Australia Our experience is in the rescuing, rehabilitating and appropriately rehoming dogs that may not other options available to them.

Based in Perth, WA - we are a rescue who promotes responsible ownership of all dogs through education; advocate for humane management of dogs and force free training methods; and campaign against breed descriminatory laws. Our Story

The Canine Welfare Alliance of Australia Inc, was formed out of the need to campaign for changes to legislation to improve welfare for all dogs, regardless of breed,

and later on to assist dogs who find themselves in need of rescue. A foster based rescue in Perth, Western Australia, our experience is with staffy, bully and molosser breeds, however our doors are open to any dog in need of our help. We provide a comprehensive service to the community, but are completely unfunded and run by a small group of passionate volunteers who have extensive experience in animal welfare. We provide an foster program for dogs who come into care, with the aim that they never find themselves in the system again. We also liaise with local and state regulators to improve penalties for the abuse or neglect of canines; advocate for the removal of breed discriminatory legislation, including promotion of responsible canine ownership; and campaign to introduce consistent, progressive and humane welfare management practices, in an attempt to decrease euthanasia rates of all canines. Lastly we provide a referral, advocacy and support service to dog owners who require assistance to keep or care for their dogs, including food and parasite treatments when available. If owners are provided with adequate resources and appropriate advice, it reduces the need for canines to enter pounds, rescue groups or shelters. It is our belief that all canines have the ability to be social, well behaved community and family members, given the right opportunities, and provided with the right environment, training and guidance. We place the welfare and needs of each dog before profits or personal gain, and each dog which enters our care is treated with compassion, patience and a force free approach. πŸ©·πŸ’›πŸ’œ FOSTER CARE SORTED - THANK YOU TO HER NEW FOSTER MUM AND EVERYONE WHO SHARED - MALI WILL BE SAFE WITH USπŸ©·πŸ’›πŸ’œ

SUPER URGENT CARE NEEDED FOR MALI! πŸ’”

We have only ONE WEEK to find very shy Mali 🌸 an experienced foster home. 🏠

She is an itty bitty, 17kg staff x, who is urgent need of somewhere to go by the 20th!!The deadline cannot be extended and she will not cope in kennels.

Mali is an extremely anxious dog with new people, but is particularly scared of men.

We have spent time with Mail and she will bond closely with a calm, patient and consistent female carer, that is confident with dogs.

We prefer this is be female only, but will consider a home where there is a gentle male present. However the primary carer needs to be female and both people need to allow her to set the pace. It is important that Mali is given time and space to decompress in the new home, so she isn’t put under pressure or flooded. βœ…

Sorry no kids please. ❌

Sadly Mali’s one safe person in this world, her beautiful mum, has gone into full time care and her dad is moving to a retirement home. Sadly we believe she has been abused πŸ’” by men at some time in her early years. As a result Mali has never really bonded with her male owner since she was given to them at 2 years old.

Mali is not reactive to calm dogs 🐢 and may possibly go with a very calm social male medium dog who will ignore her (must have the ability to do slow intro over a few days so separate area to begin with).

As you may notice Mali also has pretty severe skin issues. The vets believe this is due to being fed an all meat diet and stress since her mum went into care. Since her diet has changed a week ago it is already shown signs of improvement and she is now on anxiety meds. Blood tests have thankfully so far ruled out other endocrine disorders such as Thyroid or Cushings.

Mali has a lot going on behaviour wise, so does get some storm anxiety, settling in anxiety (this should resolve in time) and vets. She is sadly very fearful of leads and harnesses so will shut down, but she overcomes this out on walks. Mali also loves her car rides and is very happy to sit nicely watching out the window.

At almost 10 years old this darling girl, is a low energy dog and very much house trained. πŸ’–

Mali is food motivated, but over all is already a well behaved dog, and responds well to gentle reassurance. She will need someone willing to give her time to come around, and use positive reinforcement to build her confidence. As she is so anxious, it’s best Mali has a small yard she can retreat to if she wishes.

Mali does desperately want to bond with females and will attach herself quite quickly from our interactions with her. πŸ’žThe poor darling didn’t want to go home the two occasions we have had her out, which shows us that she prefers females to men.

We are looking for a home in Perth, who are prepared to work with us and follow our instructions. Someone home part time is needed initially and is committed long term.

We know this kind of home we are asking for is rare πŸ€, but we have to try for Mali’s sake, as we feel she will thrive in the right home.🌷

If you can open your home to the sweetest little poppet (she is staffy size), please email [email protected] for a form.

Mali is already desexed, but will need a dental at some stage and has some arthritis. Full support will be provided and vet costs covered while Mali is in foster care.

Please share for Mali - we know this special girl will make a lovely companion for a lady owner. πŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œ

Please continue to share Mali. It is very urgent and her options are limited. She deserves a chance. πŸ™

πŸ©·πŸ’›πŸ’œ FOSTER CARE SORTED - THANK YOU TO HER NEW FOSTER MUM AND EVERYONE WHO SHARED - MALI WILL BE SAFE WITH USπŸ©·πŸ’›πŸ’œ

Meet Mali, 🌸 a very shy, itty bitty, 17kg am staff x who is urgent need of somewhere to go by the 21st (can not be extended)!

We have just two weeks to find wee darling girl a suitable home. Sadly Mali’s one safe person in this world, her beautiful mum, has gone into full time care and her dad is moving to a retirement home. Due to her anxiety, Mali requires a very specific foster or foster to adopt home. 🀞

She is an extremely anxious dog with new people, but is particularly scared of men, and requires a confident, calm and consistent female only home, that can follow our instructions.

Mali came into the care of her current family around 2 years old. Sadly we believe she has been abused πŸ’” by men at some time in her early years. As a result Mali has never really bonded with her male owner. We have assessed her today and she will bond with a female carer, who is patient and will give her space to begin with.

Sorry she is absolutely not suitable for children. ❌

Mali has a lot going on behaviour wise, so does get some storm anxiety, separation anxiety (this should resolve in time) and vets (she will shake but a lick mat helps her). She is sadly very fearful of leads and harnesses so will shut down, but once out for walks she overcomes this. Mali also loves her car rides and is very happy to sit nicely watching out the window.

At almost 10 years old this darling girl, is a low energy dog and house trained. Mali is food motivated, but over all is already a well behaved dog, and responds well to gentle reassurance. She will need someone willing to use plenty of praise and positive reinforcement to build her confidence. As she is so anxious, it’s best Mali has a yard she can retreat to if she wishes and will allow her that space.

At this stage we would suggest no other pets, but is not reactive on initial meet.

Mali does desperately want to bond with females and will attach herself quite quickly from our interactions with her today. πŸ’ž

We are looking for a female only home in Perth, who are prepared to work with us and not flood Mali. Someone home part time is needed and can adhere to instructions. Mali is already desexed, but will need a dental at some stage and has some arthritis.

We know this kind of quiet home we are asking for is rare, but we have to try for Mali’s sake, as we think she will thrive in the right home. 🫢

If you can open your home to the sweetest little poppet (she is staffy size), please email [email protected] for a form.

Full support will be provided and vet costs covered while Mali is in foster care.

Please share for Mali - we know this special girl will make a lovely companion for a lady owner. πŸ©·πŸ’œπŸ©·πŸ’œ

🌏 Interstate Adoption available? No ❌ - AU only adoption 🌏

Lovely bird friendly Lyla, is our longest termer and an affectionate sensitive princess πŸ‘‘ in need of a forever family, ideally with a confident playful dog, who can offer her the serenity of the outer city property and plenty of cuddles! πŸ₯°

Lyla has proved how resilient she is forming strong bonds with her carers and has flourished into a happy dog, who enjoys walks and car rides. She has gained heaps of confidence, but is still unsure of new people and will need a confident family where one of the adults is female. Lyla is great with children, having been raised with young toddlers before coming into care, is currently living with teens who she loves and is fabulous with younger visitors, (she will bark at visitors so may scare some children). Once she attaches herself to people she trusts them with every ounce of her being, which is probably her most admirable trait. 😍

πŸ’—πŸ’œπŸ©΅ UPDATE: BRIE IS NOW ON FOSTER TO ADOPT πŸ©΅πŸ’œπŸ’—

We have stepped back from taking in rescues over the past 18 months, but we have been asked to assist this beautiful Wolfhound cross via friends.

Brie is around 14 months old, follows more of the deerhound cross / staghound physique, and has such an incredible soft nature. She is a real sweetheart, who has been well loved and is very friendly with everyone. Brie is currently in kennels and needs a foster carer or foster home with view to adopt.

Being a leggy young lady, she does need a yard where she has access to stretch those legs. As with all sighthounds she cover great lengths at speed and loves to run. Brie is not fence jumper and has lived on acreage before, so could go to rural property. She is good with most animals, including large and small dogs, cats, horses and livestock. βœ… Please note she has had once incident with a chicken who did not survive.

Being a sighthound, Brie would like access to indoors and your couch, as she considers herself one of the family. She is very affectionate and will bond closely with her family. Brie has had some training, so responds nicely to commands and is mostly house trained. She walks on lead well and also has great recall off lead once she is bonded with her people.

She can be a little excited initially, (quickly calms down) so we feel kids over 6 is best, as she is likely to knock little ones over, though has lived with a baby previously.

Brie loves bush walks, car rides, beach trips, playing with her soft teddies or balls, and being by your side.

If you would like to open your home to get Brie out of kennels, please send us an email and we can send you a form to sign up.

Our email πŸ“§ is [email protected]

She has already been in the kennel for weeks, so we are all keen to get her out ASAP.

Little bit late posting this, but a big shout out to the wonderful team at Baldivis Boarding Kennels & Cattery for this fabulous donation for our boofas. πŸΎπŸ’™πŸ’š

We are still assisting pet owners in need of a helping hand in Perth and have a few doggos looking for homes, so we appreciate the ongoing support from businesses.

Also thank you to lovely Jo for collecting for us. πŸ©·πŸ’œ

Last month we helped handsome Caesar, who was unwell and owner couldn’t afford a vet appointment. Sadly it was found that Caesar had Lymphoma and a few weeks later he gained his wings. It wasn’t the outcome we were hoping for, but Caesar’s owner was grateful having received support to get an answer.

We can all relate to wanting to know we have done everything possible for our pets when it comes to their health and welfare. We can’t assist everyone, but for those struggling who do reach out, we will always try to do our best to help.

Lastly thank you to the amazing team at Forrestdale Veterinary Hospital who helped us with Caesar and are always there for us. πŸΎπŸ’›πŸ§‘

Jay Jay came into care with multiple lumps that needed removing, terrible untreated ear infections and a Grade 3 heart murmur. With some TLC, change in diet and regular gentle exercise he is now thriving and loving life with his new family. 🫢
