The future isn't something we wait for. It is something we build through courageous conversations and bold leadership.
It was a true privilege to moderate a fireside conversation with Hon. Amber-Jade Sanderson MLA, Western Australia's Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation, Manufacturing, Skills and TAFE, and the Pilbara on 27th May 2026.
Our discussion went far beyond energy. We explored how Western Australia is positioning itself to become a global leader in the energy transition while balancing some of today's most complex challenges:
• Delivering a reliable, affordable and decarbonised energy system
• Transforming the SWIS as coal exits the grid
• Building the Pilbara into a world-leading clean energy and industrial powerhouse
• Strengthening fuel security and community resilience in an increasingly uncertain world
• Preparing a future-ready workforce through skills, TAFE and industry collaboration
• Ensuring that innovation, investment and meaningful partnerships with Traditional Owners remain central to this transformation.
What resonated with me throughout the conversation was one simple truth: The energy transition is not simply about technology. It is about leadership. It requires governments, industry, academia, investors and communities to work together with a shared vision for long-term prosperity.
As someone who has spent more than three decades working across the global energy sector, it was inspiring to facilitate a discussion that focused not only on today's challenges, but on creating opportunities for future generations.
My sincere thanks to Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson for sharing her insights, vision and leadership, and to everyone who joined the conversation and contributed thoughtful questions. Special thanks to Farla and the team at the Australian Institute of Energy for giving me the opportunity to moderate such an insightful and inspiring conversation.
These are exactly the conversations that move industries forward.
