Special announcement from the Gumala Trust 📢

We are pleased to be providing a Community Support Payment to all Gumala Beneficiaries.

At the Gumala Trust, supporting Beneficiaries is at the heart of what we do, and this payment reflects our commitment to ensuring Beneficiaries receive the support and benefits intended for them.

If you already have an active Gumala Purchasing Card, your payment will be automatically loaded on 1 September, (you don't need to do anything) 😊

If you don't have a card, please contact us at [email protected], and we'll help you find the best option for receiving your payment.

📧 Please check your inbox for an email with more information about this payment and why it is being provided.

📢 We want to share an update on the arrangements for the 2026 AGM.

Earlier this month, GAC asked for a face to face AGM for GAC only. This request came very late and wasn’t a formal proposal, so it isn’t possible to organise an in person AGM for 2026.

Last year, only around 1 in 5 Beneficiaries attended the in person AGM, even though it cost the Foundation more than $3 million. With rising fuel costs, a face to face AGM this year would cost around $4 million.

Both organisations agreed in June that a virtual AGM is the safest and most financially responsible option. Holding the AGM online means more funds can go directly back to Beneficiaries, and ensures equal access for everyone – including those who cannot travel.

🧡 Cultural and Community Engagement

We’ve heard clearly how important face to face cultural connection is – and we’ve listened.

AGMs are formal governance meetings, not cultural events. A dedicated cultural gathering is a safer, more meaningful and more enjoyable way for the Gumala community to come together.

The Gumala Trust has invited GAC to submit a proposal for a 2026 community gathering – a culturally meaningful, family friendly event held on Country, focused on culture, connection and celebration, separate from AGM business.

This approach reflects what Beneficiaries have asked for and creates space for a gathering the whole community can look forward to.

💼 Consultation Payments

Because Beneficiaries won’t receive travel reimbursements for the AGM this year, the Gumala Trust has increased its consultation fee for the online AGM from $500 to $750.

We have encouraged GAC to also increase its consultation fee to $750. If this happens, every Beneficiary who attends the online AGM will receive $1,500.

The Gumala Trust remains committed to supporting Beneficiaries and strengthening the Foundation. We look forward to connecting with you at the online AGM, and to celebrating culture, family and community on Country in 2026.

Temporary Pause on Prezzee Gift Card Distribution 🚨

This is an important update for Beneficiaries who receive gift cards from GAC.

To protect the General Gumala Foundation (GGF) and meet our legal obligations under the Trust Deed and the ACNC, the Gumala Trust has directed GAC to temporarily stop purchasing and distributing gift cards.

Using gift cards poses a risk to the GGF's charitable status. Losing that status would have serious impacts for all Beneficiaries, so we must act now to keep the Foundation safe.

This pause is temporary. We are working on a new process that will allow future purchases and distributions to be managed properly and in line with the Trust Deed and the Elders’ intentions.

This pause does not apply to Gumala Purchasing Cards, which are fully compliant with the Trust Deed.

A detailed email has been sent to all Gumala Beneficiaries today — please read it for the full explanation. If you have any questions, you can contact us at [email protected].
