Padbury Community Kindergarten

Padbury Community Kindergarten PCK is a warm, welcoming place where children learn through play, exploration, and connection. https://www.education.wa.edu.au/enrolling-in-school

Our nature-based environment encourages curiosity, creativity, and confidence as children build friendships and develop a lifelong love for learning. Padbury Community Kindergarten is situated in the suburb of Padbury which is in the North Western suburbs of Perth. The Teachers are Education Department staff and follow the same curriculum and guidelines as a school based Kindergarten. The program

is delivered in nurturing, caring, and play based environment. We implement evidence based, age-appropriate strategies in our delivery of the curriculum. Our large kindergarten building was purpose built in 1974, is owned by the City of Joondalup and leased to the Parent Management Committee of the Kindergarten. The maintenance and upkeep of the building is shared between the City of Joondalup and the Management Committee. You can check if your child is the correct age, using the calculator below.

This week, we have been learning about germs and why washing our hands is so important for keeping ourselves and others healthy.

The children explored how germs can spread and talked about times when it is important to wash our hands. We also created germ artwork and carried out the pepper experiment. We sprinkled pepper onto water to represent germs and then touched the water with a soapy finger. The children were amazed to see the pepper quickly move away, helping them understand how soap helps remove germs from our hands.

These experiences helped build the children's understanding of healthy habits in a fun and engaging way.

Over the past few weeks, we have been exploring emotions and building our emotional literacy. Through stories, discussions, and creative experiences, children have been learning to recognise different emotions, understand what can cause them, and identify feelings in themselves and others through facial expressions and body language.

An important part of our learning has been understanding that all emotions are normal and that feelings come and go. We have explored positive ways to respond to big emotions and how to support ourselves and others when challenges arise.

Through activities such as emotion face drawings and creating traditional Guatemalan worry dolls, children have been developing self-awareness, empathy, and the confidence to talk about their feelings.

This week (June 11th) was International Day of Play, and what better way to celebrate than outdoors in the rain!

Play doesn’t stop when the weather changes at PCK.

At PCK, we know that some of the best learning happens when children are free to play, whatever the weather.

This week we have been exploring healthy foods. The children looked at healthy foods prepared in different shapes and sizes, then drew their own plans before creating a healthy food cracker. They enjoyed evaluating their creations and discussing what worked well in their designs.
