Here's a cheeky glimpse into our latest Brisbane showcase!

We rolled out the red carpet for our graduating class, giving everyone a chance to peak at the She Coders' portfolios.

A wonderful night of networking, celebration and women in tech.

No!

It depends on the industry you are wanting to work in but many employers recognise other forms of learning. As Alicia Densley shared at our Brisbane Showcase - the most important things to show are culture fit, and your ability to problem solve. 👏🏼

From never coding at all to almost coding an entire game!

That's another one off the win wall.

Even women with no coding experience or tech background at all are leaving workshop days having created something! We truly believe there is a space for you in tech. 👏🏼

“The most dangerous phrase in the language is, ‘We’ve always done it this way.’” - Grace Hopper

Grace Hopper has been called the “queen of code” and “mother of computing.”

The 1928 Vassar alumna and former faculty member was one of the world’s first computer programmers, working as part of a Navy effort on Howard Aiken’s Mark 1 calculating machine during World War II.

She later became one of the few women to earn the rank of rear admiral, and when she retired in 1986, she was one of the longest-serving officers in Navy history and the oldest-serving officer in the United States Armed Forces

She often said she wanted to live until January 1, 2000, in order to see the unexpected advances computers had made by then, and laugh at the unbelievers. “I think we consistently continually underestimate what we can do with computers if we really try,” she said in 1980. This confidence that computers would become increasingly ubiquitous was a driving force behind her efforts to make them more user-friendly.

Salome joined us as a participant in Perth before levelling up to mentor. She is a Data Engineer, Astrophysicist, and Consultant.

“I've mentored my students as they were finishing high school and considering further education. I heard their concerns and supported them in their choices whilst also opening up their minds to opportunities yet to materialise in their paths.”

What makes Salome an amazing fit as a She Codes mentor: “I can relate 100% to the She Codes culture. I'm fully on board with creating/contributing to a safe space, one that is supportive, non-judgemental, inclusive, welcoming. I am a firm believer in the impact of 'paying it forward'. She Codes changes lives with opportunities for women, I'd like to continue to do precisely that!”

You can meet Salome at our Perth workshop on June 13th!

Yesterday we went to in support of CodeCrush, an initiative bringing year 9’a from across WA together on campus for 3 days of workshops, games, connection, mentoring and inspiration.

We taught a brand new JavaScript game - cupcake clicker because we firmly believe everything is better with cupcakes.🎉

Shout out to new mentor Reuben who gave up his Thursday to help out 🙌🙌🙌
