Armadale Reptile Centre, 308 South Western Highway, Perth (2026)

Klaas and Mieke (founders and operators) have been rescuing wildlife since the early 1970's. They wanted to protect wildlife and educate the public on our native fauna, so started the Armadale Reptile Centre in 1995. Now it houses over 350 animals mainly reptiles (including a crocodile), but also amphibians, kangaroos, emus, dingoes, birds and donkeys and ponies. Most of these animals have arrived

there due to being injured and are unable to be returned to the wild, surrendered or confiscated by authorities. They also act as a drop off point for injured reptiles, provide a rescue service for venomous snakes, cater for school and commumity groups, snake capture and release courses and displays.

We have the most amazing Community around the Centre 🥰

We had a wonderful visitor on Friday, who brought with her these beautiful hand made cards to express her sympathy's for our loss of our long term Volunteer Marc and the loss of our Dingo, Jay.

The Armadale Reptile Centre has had a tough few weeks. After losing our long term much loved friend and volunteer Marc Lane, the next day our beloved Dingo Jay was laid to rest on Wednesday the 10th June 2026❤️🐾

Jay arrived with us shortly after Kyah in 2015. His owner being FIFO needed to find him another home due to his work commitments so he was surrendered to another wildlife facility. He was just over one year old.
We wanted a friend for Kyah so after hearing from our good friend Dot she had a Dingo needing a home, Klaas set off to go 'look at him'. Well, after a brief meet and greet Jay was in the back seat heading for a home at ARC!
He was desexed and introduced to Kyah. It didnt take long before they became best mates.

Jay was certainly the cheeky clown. I remember one rainy day, Kyah being fast asleep on his warm bed in the dry den, when next minute Jay grabs hold of the bed and drags him out into the pouring rain!

At the start of May we noticed he was having some discomfort in his mouth, rubbing and shifting his jaw around and a minor swelling under his left eye. This was after a routine urine and blood screening for both our Dingoes back in March that showed no concerns.
We scheduled a vet appointment and took Jay down, with symptoms described the vet placed him on antibiotics and anti-inflammatory with a hope it will clear and if not the next step would be sedation for a full oral inspection.
2 weeks later Jay was still his happy self but was still showing the discomfort signs and a smell began again in his mouth. A new appointment was scheduled and Jay was fully sedated and his teeth inspected. It was found that the back left upper jaw had 2 teeth that were heavily degraded and loose. So Jay was scheduled for surgery the following week.
Surgery was completed, 2 teeth were extracted and the prognosis looked good. Another 15 days of antibiotics was prescribed which Jay completed with no issues. However after his meds were completed about 4 days later, he started to show symptoms again and the vet was called for a new course of pain amd antibiotics relief. But sadly on the Wednesday (10th) it was noticed he had developed a swelling again under his eye and had serum leaking from his nostril. Blood was then noticed in his right nostril and the vet was called immediately for an emergency appointment.
After sedating Jay at the vet and inspecting his mouth it was discovered a large and aggressive tumour had formed since the dental surgery (only 2.5 weeks prior),. It had seriously compromised his jaw and even pushed up into his sinus and potentially was impacting his left eye.
The prognosis was very poor and the tumour could not be removed. So the final heartbreaking but kind choice had to be made.

Jay is buried now with our other two original Dingoes Rebel and Rusty. Jay was a wonderful age of 12 years when he crossed the Rainbow Bridge.

Kyah, Jay's friend of over 10 years is getting extra love and attention since his passing and thankfully seems to be coping well enough without his "brother".

We wish to sincerely thank the staff at Animal Hospital for their amazing care and support with Jay.

RIP Jay. Our hearts are shattered and we will miss you dearly. You really were one of a kind.

Vale Marc Lane aka "Grizzly"

On the 7th January 2003 Marc began his commitment as a volunteer with ARC. Who knew this dedicated journey was to last the next 23 years!

Tuesdays was his volunteer day where he interacted with the public doing reptile handling sessions, taking the time to educate visitors on the beauty and importance of reptiles and other native wildlife and our environment. He also enjoyed participating in incursions such as talks, displays, social functions, birthday parties, and other events. He would also open ARC out of opening hours to teach cub scouts about our incredible nature. He loved this role where his skills and passion proved extraordinary and his ability to inspire respect and care in the misunderstood creatures he loved so much.

Marc's kind spirit extended beyond ARC where he also volunteered his time as a docent for many years at Perth Zoo (since 2003), a member of SERCUL, Friends of Ellis Brook, participating in 'Ghost Walks' and many others.

One of Marcs favourite and happiest time of the year was during the Christmas holidays where for many, many years he dressed up as Santa and brought joy into kids lives.

We will miss his kindness, dedication, passion and exceptional knowledge on different species. Marc you will never be forgotten by us and we cant express how much we will miss you.

A day to celebrate a century of a man who has inspired many of us to do the work that we do 🐾🐾

A very Happy Birthday to Sir David Attenborough, 100 years old today and still showing us all the importance our planet, and all its inhabitants, have to the balance of nature.

The work Sir David has done for our understanding and knowledge of our natural world can never be thanked enough, he is a true pioneer and we can all hope to follow in his footsteps.

Sir David made us all think beyond our own bubble. He showed us how the world works in unison and introduced us to lands, peoples and wildlife that we would otherwise never get to meet. His documentaries brought to light the plight of many of our wildlife and wild places. Seeing the beauty of these unique places, we were shown we are not above it but rather a part of the ecosystem, and we have the knowledge and power now to ensure our planet flourishes and our natural spaces and their residents are around for many generations to come.

A very happy birthday to Sir David Attenborough, here is to the many more years of your inspiration to come 🎊🎊
