NAWIC WA Celebrates International Women’s Day with a Fun and Fabulous Trivia Night!
The National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) WA Chapter hosted its annual International Women’s Day Trivia Night, bringing together industry professionals to celebrate, connect and reflect on the 2026 theme, Balance the Scales.
A highlight of the evening was a panel Q&A featuring two of NAWIC WA’s 2025 Award winners, Renee Nelson and Brianna Fretwell, who shared insights into their careers and reflected on what Balance the Scales means to them.
Renee, recently appointed Head of Pre-Contracts – Energy & Utilities at Downer, spoke about how she fell into her role in mentoring and advocacy. After helping a colleague through some personal challenges, it became the catalyst for the work she now champions today. Drawing on her own experiences, Renee has become a strong advocate for supporting women navigating bullying, domestic violence and other workplace challenges.
Brianna, an HSE Advisor with Laing O’Rourke, reflected on her journey into the industry and how winning her award has strengthened her confidence. She spoke about realising the positive influence she can have through the many people she interacts with in her role, and her passion for helping create safer, more inclusive workplaces.
Both speakers highlighted that their careers didn’t necessarily follow a set plan, instead evolving through opportunities, challenges and a shared desire to be good people and support others.
The night also featured plenty of fun and laughter thanks to our hosts from Connections Nightclub, Barbie Q and Alexas Armstrong. Congratulations to the team from HWL Ebsworth Lawyers, who took out the trivia title for the evening.
Thank you to everyone who attended and supported the event. The evening was a great reminder of the strength of the NAWIC community and the importance of continuing to champion women across the construction industry.
