๐ฆก Quenda: your gardenโs quiet little helpers
If youโve noticed small snuffle marks or turned soil, you might already have a quenda (southern brown bandicoot) visiting, and thatโs a good thing.
Quenda are friends, not pests.
As they forage, they dig thousands of small holes that:
๐ฑ improve soil health
๐ง increase water infiltration
๐ฟ help native plants germinate
๐ spread beneficial fungi through the soil
In other words, theyโre natural gardeners and ecosystem engineers.
But please donโt feed them.
Human food (even fruit and bread) can cause serious health problems, change natural behaviour, and increase the risk of disease and predators.
Quenda are excellent at finding their own food, thatโs literally their superpower.
How you can help instead:
โข Leave leaf litter and fallen logs
โข Avoid rat baits
โข Keep dogs leashed and cats contained, especially at night
โข Enjoy them from a distance ๐
Protect their homes, and theyโll quietly restore your garden.
