This is what we found on Connell Avenue this afternoon after doing our big clean up Australia Day Event this morning - unbelievable!!!
Why canโ€™t people be kind- a huge effort was made by a lot of people to clean up this area and this is what we come back to find. This is so disrespectful !!!

Today we held our annual Clean up Australia Day event in conjunction with Armadale Gosnells Landcare group.

A big thanks to Talen from Aglg for all his hard work and Merise from Friends of Banyowla Clifton Hills for Co-ordinating it.

A very successful event, with over 20 volunteers including two families and weโ€™d like to thank all who came along and helped.

Iโ€™m happy to say we managed to collect 35 bags of rubbish including a tailshaft off a car, lots of takeaway containers, Bricks and general rubbish.

It was lovely to get out in the bush to help our environment and I even saw Kangaroos and a few flowers along the way. Some of our volunteers even showed us a birds nest and clustering bees. Nature is always rewarding.

Hope to see you all again at our Rivercare planting Day Event on the 28th June.

๐Ÿฆก Quenda: your gardenโ€™s quiet little helpers

If youโ€™ve noticed small snuffle marks or turned soil, you might already have a quenda (southern brown bandicoot) visiting, and thatโ€™s a good thing.
Quenda are friends, not pests.

As they forage, they dig thousands of small holes that:
๐ŸŒฑ improve soil health
๐Ÿ’ง increase water infiltration
๐ŸŒฟ help native plants germinate
๐Ÿ„ spread beneficial fungi through the soil

In other words, theyโ€™re natural gardeners and ecosystem engineers.
But please donโ€™t feed them.

Human food (even fruit and bread) can cause serious health problems, change natural behaviour, and increase the risk of disease and predators.

Quenda are excellent at finding their own food, thatโ€™s literally their superpower.

How you can help instead:
โ€ข Leave leaf litter and fallen logs
โ€ข Avoid rat baits
โ€ข Keep dogs leashed and cats contained, especially at night
โ€ข Enjoy them from a distance ๐Ÿ’š

Protect their homes, and theyโ€™ll quietly restore your garden.

Today we had a cleanup morning with a big dumping of household goods along Connell Ave and also lots of takeaway wrappers and disposable vapes.

We collected at least 20 bags of rubbish so well done to everyone who came along and helped.

If youโ€™ve ever considered volunteering please let us know, thereโ€™s nothing more satisfying than seeing what youโ€™ve achieved after a big cleanup !!!

A great sunny spring morning to be out and about removing the troublesome weeds Aloe Vera and Watsonia from Connell Ave Bushland, a special Bush Forever site.

Six of us had a productive morning whilst also having time to enjoy the beautiful wildflowers on show. Thanks for everyoneโ€™s help and see you next month for our last clean up of the year!
