The Asbestos Diseases Society of Australia (ADSA) is Australia’s leading health association assisting persons affected by mesothelioma – asbestosis – silicosis – lung cancer. Founded in 1979, the ADSA is a caring, non-profit, charitabl

e organisation that aims to the alleviate suffering, anxiety and financial stress experienced by asbestos sufferers and their families. Our services include:
* pastoral care, counselling and support services for sufferers their families
* providing economic assistance to those who suffer financial hardship or social disadvantage as a result of contracting asbestos-related illness
* providing medico-legal counselling and assistance with Workers’ Compensation and Common Law damages claims
* fundraising for lifesaving medical research, to find a cure for malignant mesothelioma and lung cancer
* raising awareness of the dangers associated with asbestos in the community and providing information on safety measures
* promoting research into early diagnosis and treatment of asbestos-related diseases

ASBESTOS DISEASES ADVISORY SERVICES
In 1984, the ADSA set up Asbestos Diseases Advisory Services (ADAS) in response to a perceived demand for independent advice and assistance in asbestos-related issues. The Advisory Service provides:
* assistance with screenings for asbestos-related diseases, which includes low dose CT scans and breathing tests
* medical and legal support
* counselling and support groups
* industrial and environmental hygiene information

Both the ADSA and ADAS are part of an independent non-profit charitable structure. With the exception of a small annual grant from Western Australian Government, both are self funded and are not affiliated with, or supported by, any commercial or other Government bodies. Any funds in excess or operating expenses are directed towards medical research or any other urgent needs of the asbestos sufferers and their families. All services provided by the ADSA and ADAS are absolutely free. HOW TO SUPPORT THE ADSA
Public support and donations have enabled the ADSA to support sufferers, families and carers, as well as fund lifesaving programs and medical research. All donations of $2 or more are tax deductible.

It has been a difficult six months for the ADSA, with the loss of many valued Wittenoom members. Their absence is deeply felt.

Our commitment remains unwavering: we will continue fighting for a national memorial to honour the victims and survivors of Australia’s worst industrial disaster.

The legacy of Wittenoom is real, and its impact is still with us today.

Dear Members and friends we are always so humbled by our patient’s grace and dignity as they face deadly cancer diagnosis’s. We know the answer is medical research investment. Pathologist Professor Richard Scolyer highlighted this through research and a personal medical trial for his own brain cancer.

We can’t all be brilliant clinicians and scientists, but we can ask the Government to invest in rare cancers that kill the people we love and give researchers the job security they need to further advances like these.

A special thank you to Professor Scolyer and his family for sharing their journey with Australia to save other lives. See Professor Scolyer’s letter to Australia below.

Professor Scolyer wrote he "would be delighted and humbled to be remembered as a proud everyday Aussie who 'gave it a crack', and in doing so, inspired others to pursue their dreams and passions with humility, love and compassion".
