International Commission of Jurists (Western Australian Branch) The Western Australian Branch of the Australian Section of the ICJ was first launched in 1989 under the Presidency of the Hon.

The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ), based in Geneva is a non-governmental organisation committed to the primacy, coherence and implementation of international law and principles that advance human rights. The Branch is seeking new members and ideas. Membership is open to:

(a) legal practitioners, law teachers, graduates or students or present or former judicial
offices or person subscribing to the objects of the Branch;

(b) any legal firm, or partnership or corporation subscribing to the objects of the Branch. The ICJ(WA) has had working groups in the following areas:
Aboriginal people
Refugees
East Timor
Montagnard People of Vietnam
West Papua

Forests provide fruits, seeds, roots, and wild meat, supporting millions of people, especially indigenous and rural communities. They also nurture agriculture by enriching soil, hosting pollinators, and regulating climate. In times of crisis, forests serve as an economic and food lifeline, ensuring access to vital resources.

However, these ecosystems are at risk—10 million hectares of forests are lost annually due to deforestation, while fires affect 70 million hectares. Urgent action is needed to protect and restore forests for the well-being of our planet and future generations.
