How exciting is this!

This week on ABC Kids Community, its Sensory Week.

Don't forget to tune into Tuesday's episode of Playschool as they have a special guess, Vanessa - who is Deaf herself. Vanessa used to live here in WA, so some of you might even know her.

During the Sensory Week, every show for the week will also have an Deaf Auslan Translator - making it fully accessible for the Deaf & Hard of Hearing community!

Its fantastic to see Auslan & Deaf people represented on children's TV.

2026 Census – Australia - its Census day today!

If you use Auslan with your child, family member or yourself, don't forget to include Auslan as a language used at home when completing your Census.

Every response helps build a clearer picture of our community and supports better planning with TAFE, Education, Universities and also for advocacy services in Australia.

🌭 Sausage Sizzle Alert! 🌭

Join us at Bunnings Belmont on Saturday, 15 August 2026 for a delicious day out supporting the WA Foundation for Deaf Children!

Bring the whole family along, grab a sausage sizzle, and enjoy a fun community outing.

Special Guest Appearance!
Cottie will be there, ready for photos, high-fives, and plenty of fun! Don't forget to stop by and say hello to our amazing Mentors, who would love to catch up with families and community members throughout the day.

The weather is forecasting to be an amazing 21 degrees - so come along and grab a sausage sizzle & a drink or just pop down and say 'Hello' and learn some Auslan signs.

On Saturday 1 August, 11 Deaf and Hard of Hearing participants attended the first Car Mechanics Workshop hosted by .

Everyone had the opportunity to learn valuable hands-on skills, from understanding warning symbols on the dashboard to changing a tyre. They also learned how to check oil levels, replace light bulbs, and gain confidence in basic vehicle maintenance.

It was wonderful to see everyone getting involved, asking questions, and building practical skills that can be used in everyday life and could also save themselves when they are stuck on the highways!

What a great day everyone had! When I need help, I know who to call... watch out! 😄

A huge thank you to Assured Learning and everyone who attended and made the workshop such a success.

𝐀𝐮𝐬 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭

On Monday 27 July 2026, a test Critical Alert will be sent to all compatible mobile devices in Australia. This includes most phones, as well as some smartwatches and tablets. In WA, 𝐀𝐮𝐬 𝐀𝐥𝐞𝐫𝐭 will take place at 12:00pm

The alert will override 'silent' and 'do not disturb' device settings. It will appear like a system notification on screens and make a loud siren sound for 10 seconds.

Whether the AusAlert national test will work with your hearing aids or cochlear implant will depend on your device’s accessibility settings.

If you’re worried about receiving the AusAlert sound directly through your hearing technology, we recommend unpairing the Bluetooth connection between your hearing device and your phone or tablet before the test time in your location, and leaving it unpaired for at least one hour.
