Do you ever wonder about your presenting style? What do you do when you’re confronted with a sea of faces? Are you presenting at this year’s Young Readers Day Out or have bookings for 2026 and after a few tips before walking on stage?

There is a growing variety in how authors and illustrators present at schools, festivals, and events. Some bring high energy and performance flair while others engage with calm warmth and quiet charisma.

If you’re curious about where you fit in the mix or just want to hone your skills, come to this interactive discussion that celebrates the full spectrum of presentation styles to find the approach that best suits YOU.

With support from and the owner and host, Peppermint Grove Retreat is offering WA emerging and established authors and illustrators of children’s and YA books an opportunity to escape their daily lives to focus on creating for a maximum period of two weeks between June 1 - 15 2025.

Calling all SCBWI West members, non-members, parents, guardians and book lovers! Meet some of Western Australia’s most well-known children’s book authors and illustrators for a day packed with activities, including:

• Helping illustrators compete in an interactive illustration duel
• Learning how to draw your favourite book characters
• Peeking behind-the-scenes to find out how these stories come to life
• Meeting and chatting with twelve children’s book authors and illustrators.

This is a one-of-a-kind event for young readers and their families, so gather everyone for a day of creativity and excitement. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
