🌟Dyslexia & SLD Awareness Week🌟

As Dyslexia & SLD Awareness Week wraps-up, there is one message we hope continues well beyond this week:

FACT: Supporting a learner with a learning difficulty is rarely the work of one person.

✅Parents and carers bring an invaluable and intimate understanding of their child.
✅Teachers see the learning journey every day.
✅Schools create the environments in which evidence-informed learning support can become consistent practice.
✅Allied professionals can help identify difficulties and guide appropriate support.
✅Tutors can provide targeted intervention.

For more than 55 years, DSF has proudly worked alongside this wider learning community to provide evidence-informed advice, assessments, family and clinical services, specialist learning support, professional learning, programs and practical resources.

We look forward to continuing our mission in supporting our community well into the future.

Children with dyslexia and other learning difficulties can face frustrating or stressful situations at school, which may contribute to increased anxiety and impact their wellbeing.

Understanding why anxiety occurs - and recognising the signs - is an important first step in providing effective support.

In this FREE online information session, hosted by one of the psychologists from DSF’s Clinical Team, we’ll explore anxiety in children with learning difficulties and share practical strategies that parents and school staff can use to support them.

Free online session | Tuesday 13 October at 9:30 AM - 12:00 PM | Registration essential

🌟Dyslexia & SLD Awareness Week 2026🌟

During Dyslexia & SLD Awareness Week, we’re highlighting some popular books for learners with dyslexia and other learning difficulties.

Being able to access carefully structured, engaging and age-appropriate texts can make a BIG difference to a child with reading difficulties - particularly when students need additional opportunities to practise reading without being given material that feels too young.

Some popular resources you can find in the DSF Bookshop include:

📘Lost in London Series + Activity Book
A decodable catch-up series for older readers, with an unfolding mystery set in Victorian London. The accompanying activity book provides further opportunities to practise and consolidate learning.

📕Mount Olympus Mysteries: Apollo and the Lost Sun
The first book in an engaging mystery series set in Ancient Greece, designed for older striving readers who benefit from accessible text without sacrificing age-appropriate content.

📗Fox Kid
A popular decodable chapter book series for older readers who are still developing foundational reading skills. The series now extends to Book 11: Fox Kid and Miss Vixen.

📙Sun Cats 2
A hi-lo graphic novel that combines accessible text with an engaging, age-appropriate format for older readers who may find conventional texts challenging.

📕Little Learners Fluency Fun
Classroom resources designed to support reading fluency through repeated reading, shared texts and activities including whole-class theatre.
