🦋 We've spotted our first butterfly in the Samson Butterfly Laneway! 🦋

After three years of hard work, it's finally happened. This little laneway is doing exactly what it was designed to do.

Huge thanks to the City Of Fremantle for funding this project and for all the on-ground support, including the logs, rocks, mulch, and every community planting day that got us here.

Thank you to neighbours Donna and Jo for the ongoing watering that's kept these plants alive and thriving.

And a special thank you to Michelle from WA Loves Nature, whose idea this all started as. Three years ago this was just a concept, and now it's a living, breathing habitat with butterflies calling it home.

None of this would have been possible without the support of the Samson community and the Friends of Samson Park. 🌿🦋

We 💚 that we have been invited to have a stall at the Kings Park Everlasting Ideas Festival!

Come say hi to Sue and Lisa this Saturday 19 September, 10am–2pm, where we’ll have live bees, some of our native bees’ favourite wildflowers, our Native Bee Fact Sheets (get in quick!) and plenty of practical ways to support WA’s incredible pollinators.

You’ll find us in the marquees near the Everlasting Meadow (corner of Lovekin & Forrest Drives), alongside talks from Josh Byrne, Sue McDougall and ReWild Perth, plus hands-on nature crafts and a treasure hunt.

It’s a free, family-friendly day of gardening, conservation and nature-based fun, and a great chance to learn how to make your backyard a haven for native bees 🐝🌿💮

🐛💚 Save the caterpillar, save the moths and butterflies!

Every caterpillar you spare is a future moth or butterfly — and a beakful for a hungry nestling this spring 🦋🦅

No squashing. No spraying. Just let them munch and if it’s a tiger moth caterpillar (shown in video) they can eat anything so transfer to a plant that’s not special if you need.

We 💚 our native bees and the incredible role they play in WA’s ecosystems.

By planting natives that flower year-round, leaving a little bare earth, adding a bee hotel, and including strappy plants, we can all create habitat at home.

The WA Gould League Quenda Count is back for 2026, and the community is invited to help monitor one of south-west WA’s much-loved native marsupials.

Find out how you can get involved at a free community information session at the City of Perth Library.

Quendas are listed as a Priority 4 species in Western Australia, making ongoing monitoring important to better understand and protect their populations.

The survey is easy to take part in. Choose a week in October, head out for a couple of survey sessions and keep watch in your garden, local park or nearby reserve. Then simply record any quendas you spot. 🐾

Whether you’re a wildlife enthusiast, nature lover or simply curious about the creatures living in your neighbourhood, everyone is welcome.

This October, keep an eye out, share what you see and help protect one of south-west WA’s favourite native animals. ❤️
