🐢 TURTLES ARE ON THE MOVE! 🐢
It’s officially Turtle Nesting Season, and our first two weeks of Turtle Tracking at Eric Singleton, Baigup and Maylands lakes have been busy!

🦺 Our amazing City of Bayswater Turtle Trackers Volunteers have already clocked over 125 hours patrolling, spotted 36 turtles and protected 13 nests!

🪺 HERE’S HOW YOU CAN HELP OUR TURTLES:

🚫 Keep your distance! We know it’s super exciting to see a turtle and get a photo, but please stay at least 15m away and don’t disturb them. A frightened turtle may abandon nesting.

🐕 Keep dogs on a lead and be extra cautious around wetlands, especially during peak nesting season from late September to mid November—even in off-leash areas.

🚗 Drive and ride carefully. Turtles cross roads and paths to find nesting sites. Please slow down around our wetlands.

🗺️ They’re not lost! Let turtles continue in the direction they’re heading. If they appear to need help, seek advice.

🦅 Watch for predators. Keep your distance, but wave off ravens if they’re attacking.

📲 Log sightings on TurtleSAT to help monitor our local turtle populations.

👀 HELP US PROTECT MORE NESTS AT CITY OF BAYSWATER WETLANDS!
Our Turtle Trackers can’t be everywhere, so community sightings are vital. Spotted a turtle at a wetland area in the City of Bayswater? Text or call our Turtle Hotline on 0490 404 144. Every sighting helps! 🐢💚

South Western Snake-necked Turtle hatchlings are still emerging from nests around our wetlands. Last week, our Turtle Tracker team filmed this hatchling making its way to the water at Eric Singleton Wetlands.

Soon, adult nesting turtles will emerge, and they need our help.

The second year of Treebate is now open!

This year, 10,000 Western Australian residents will be able to claim up to $150 for buying and planting up to five native trees (not just one like last year!). 🌳💰

All you need is a photo of the plant label you bought showing its name, and a tax invoice, and then claim your rebate through the ServiceWA App or via a paper form. 🤳✍️

Why plant more trees?! Trees provide: habitat and food for lots of little native creatures and our beautiful native birds, and shade to help cool our streets. 🌿🦇🐞🪶

City of Bayswater Residents come in and see us today for a free tree. We have Agonis flexuosa - WA Weeping Peppermint, Eucalyptus forrestiana fuchsia gum and Corymbia ficifolia - red flowering gum. 1 tree per household. Proof of residence required. Open today 10am-4pm at 125 King William St, Bayswater.
