Minderoo Foundation

Minderoo Foundation Forge a fair future. The Minderoo Foundation was founded by Andrew and Nicola Forrest in 2001 and was originally known as the Australian Children’s Trust.

The Foundation’s work was based on the mandate to give a hand up, not a hand out and that ethos remains today. Since establishment the Foundation has supported over 230 initiatives across Australia and internationally in pursuit of a range of causes including education, research, indigenous disadvantage, disaster response and the arts. The focus going forward is in five key areas; fighting modern

slavery; ending indigenous disadvantage; ensuring all children in Australia thrive by five; nurturing new talent in the arts; and attracting the world’s best minds to Western Australia.

Every child deserves the opportunity to thrive, no matter where they live.

Today, at a Welcome Baby to Country ceremony in Armadale West, we joined WA's Early Childhood Minister, Sabine Winton MLA to announce a new $10.45 million investment through the Early Years Partnership to support children and families in Armadale West, Central Great Southern, Derby and Bidyadanga.

The investment will deliver 14 new community-prioritised projects, including transport solutions to help families access early learning and child development services, improved early years infrastructure, accommodation for visiting service providers and initiatives to improve dental and ear health outcomes.

The Early Years Partnership is a unique 10-year collaboration between communities, government and philanthropy. It puts local decision-making at the centre, backing communities to design and deliver solutions that reflect their strengths, priorities and aspirations for their children.

This latest commitment brings total investment across the four communities to more than $45 million, supporting 38 projects focused on improving child wellbeing and school readiness.

When communities lead, children are better supported to arrive at school healthy, confident and ready to learn.

Plastic pollution isn’t just an environmental issue, it’s a human health issue too.

In this episode of ConTEXT, we speak with Dr Sarah Dunlop and Dr Kevin Thomas, Director of the Queensland Alliance for Environmental Health Sciences, about toxic chemicals found in plastics, where microplastics are being detected and what researchers are learning about their potential impacts on human health.

From where you need to go to measure microplastics, to what chemicals they carry, this conversation explores what can be done to help reduce harm.

BPA is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to our exposure to plastic chemicals.

It’s often what isn’t on the label that matters most. That’s why reducing exposure to plastics, regardless of what the packaging claims, is so important.

Each year, for just a few nights, corals across Ningaloo Reef and the connected Exmouth Gulf release millions of tiny spawn bundles into the ocean.

At Minderoo Exmouth Research Lab, scientists worked through the night alongside Taronga Zoo Sydney to collect and cryopreserve that spawn, freezing living coral material that could one day help protect reefs into the future.

In this Spotlight episode, go behind the scenes to see what it takes to recreate the perfect ocean conditions, wait for the moment corals spawn, and preserve these remarkable corals for future generations.

Women Deliver 2026 helped drive meaningful progress on gender equality, bringing leaders and advocates into one room to collaborate, exchange ideas and confront some of the most pressing challenges of our time.

For us, one of the most significant outcomes was backing our 55+ partners already leading change in this space, helping connect their work, amplify their voices and create the conditions for even greater collective impact.

Scroll through to see four key outcomes from Women Deliver 2026.

While the conference may be over, we believe the connections forged and ambition shared will continue well beyond the event to ensure everyone, regardless of their gender, can thrive.

New research is revealing just how extensive the connections between coral reefs are, and which reefs are sending and receiving different types of coral larvae.

The study found that only a handful of reefs act as genuine hubs, making them critical to coral networks across the Pacific, including Lord Howe Island, which supports its more famous neighbour, the Great Barrier Reef.

The findings make clear that marine protected areas must be managed cooperatively, across boundaries and between nations, including Australia and Pacific Island countries, for the benefit of all coral reefs in the region.

The Minderoo Children’s Comprehensive Cancer Centre has officially opened at Sydney Children’s Hospital, helping more children access world-leading cancer care and the most advanced treatments sooner.

As Australia’s first fully integrated paediatric cancer centre, it brings clinicians, researchers and scientists together under one roof to help speed up the path from discovery to care.

Most importantly, the centre is designed to improve outcomes for children by expanding treatment options, supporting breakthroughs for the hardest-to-treat cancers and giving more families access to the latest therapies and specialist care.

A year on from its release, OCEAN with David Attenborough has transcended from a film into a global movement for ocean recovery.

From record-breaking audiences to screenings with world leaders and policymakers, OCEAN has helped bring ocean issues into sharper global focus at a pivotal time.

The film stands as a powerful example of what’s possible when storytelling, partnerships and strategic impact work in tandem to drive change.

Scroll through for five ways the film has made waves, as we celebrate one year since release and Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday.

Today, we celebrate Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, and mark one year since the release of OCEAN, a project he considers one of his most important yet.

Sir David has been on our screens since 1954, a constant voice of wonder, joy, and awe for life on this pale blue dot we all call home. He has narrated a planet in transformation, from its wild abundance to the critical challenges we face today. He hasn’t just documented nature. He has taken us into the field with him so we can feel it.

In OCEAN with David Attenborough, he shows us that a lifetime is long enough to witness profound loss, but also long enough to help bring the ocean back to life. In fact, effective protection can revive marine life in as little as five years.

Big news for families, children and the future of early learning in Australia.

Today, the Federal Government announced plans to commence consultations on a potential Early Education and Care Commission.

This matters because Australia’s Early Childhood Education Care system is complex; the system that supports service and policy success isn’t fit for purpose. Funding, regulation, delivery and accountability are fragmented. This creates gaps where safety and wellbeing failures happen.

A Commission could help change this.

Done well, it will strengthen decision making, improve quality and help build a more universal early learning system that puts children at the heart of action.

Over the coming months, consultations will begin with providers, educators, unions, peak bodies and communities.

Thrive by Five welcomes this important step and will continue advocating for a system that is safe, accessible and built around what children need to thrive.
