Mulching is essential in Perth’s hot climate to:
✅ Keep soil moist for healthy blooms
✅ Regulate soil temperature
✅ Suppress pesky weeds

Use a light layer of organic mulch—like lupin mulch, straw, or bark chips—but keep it well away from the crown of your gerberas to prevent moisture buildup and rot.

💧 Watering Your Gerberas

Gerberas grown in the ground need less frequent watering than those in containers because the soil holds moisture better. But be careful—they don’t like “wet feet,” which can cause root rot. Keep the surface soil consistently moist, but never waterlogged.

A quality soil moisture tester is a great way to know when your gerberas need a drink and avoid overwatering. 🌱

During extreme heat, you might notice wilting leaves or drooping flowers. A light watering after sunset usually helps them bounce back overnight, so they look healthy the next day. 🌸

As we head into the warmer weather, it’s important to keep an eye on your gerberas!

💧 Check soil moisture regularly — gerberas don’t like “wet feet,” but they also need consistent moisture to thrive.

🐛 Keep watch for pests and diseases, as they can appear more frequently in the heat.

🌿 A light mulch (kept away from the crown) can help retain moisture and keep roots cool.

A little extra care now will keep your blooms bright and healthy all summer long! 🌼
