CARAD-Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees Inc

CARAD-Centre for Asylum Seekers, Refugees and Detainees Inc The organisation started by providing basic settlement assistance and support to refugees holding TPVs.

As an independent not-for-profit organisation operating in Perth, WA since 2000, CARAD is committed to ensuring that people seeking safety in our community are empowered to rebuild their lives with dignity. CARAD was formed in 2000 when the Australian government first issued Temporary Protection Visas (TPV) which provoked community opposition to this harsh new law. Since January 2000 CARAD has ass

isted almost 5000 refugees and asylum seekers in Perth, Western Australia. CARAD actively campaigns for change in the refugee determination process and takes our advocacy directly to Government.

We are concerned that the Albanese Government may be considering removing work rights from people seeking asylum. This could see tens of thousands of people who are currently working, paying rent, buying food and supporting their families suddenly lose their only source of income and be left with no way to meet their most basic needs. This will not only force thousands of people into destitution, but it would also place enormous pressure on already overstretched charities and community organisations like CARAD.
