The organisation started by providing basic settlement assistance and support to refugees holding TPVs.

As an independent not-for-profit organisation operating in Perth, WA since 2000, CARAD is committed to ensuring that people seeking safety in our community are empowered to rebuild their lives with dignity. CARAD was formed in 2000 when the Australian government first issued Temporary Protection Visas (TPV) which provoked community opposition to this harsh new law. Since January 2000 CARAD has assisted almost 5000 refugees and asylum seekers in Perth, Western Australia. CARAD actively campaigns for change in the refugee determination process and takes our advocacy directly to Government.

Created and coordinated by two wonderful organisations -
Fremantle Amnesty and Grandmothers for Refugees.

💜 We’re incredibly lucky to have such generous ongoing support. Thank you to all the bakers, Heidi, Christa, Barbara and Helen (pictured) and Tania and Felicity (not pictured) for their delicious baking enabling the funds to be raised and pantry essential items to be purchased.

🫶🏼 Special thanks too, to Celin and Jacqui from Glyde-In - for always being supportive of these fundraisers.

It was lovely to have members of the Warwick Sai Centre drop in for a visit this week bringing with them bags filled with Pantry essentials.

One of our dedicated supporters has kindly organised a fundraiser for CARAD later this month and we’d love to see you there. Our team will be speaking about the work we do with people seeking humanitarian protection in Western Australia and how your support keeps that work going.

The CARAD Pantry team was grateful to be the recipients of a wonderful collection of essential grocery items last week.

Mary’s Mount Primary School was the first school to participate in the West Australian Catholic Migrant and Refugee Office’s (WACMRO) Asylum Seeker Assist program. A very big thank you to Dcn. Greg Lowe who developed the program and is now delivering the opportunity to participate in the program to the WA Catholic School Community.

It was lovely to welcome the Mary’s Mount delivery team including students, parents, teachers and Fr. Anand Reddy. We were happy we could show them around our Pantry and explain our pantry operations so they can really understood the valuable difference they have made.

All goods received have gone straight onto our shelves for our clients to select on the next pantry day.

Thank you to the Mary’s Mount School community for their generous donations.

A MASSIVE thank you to the generous Town of Victoria Park community for their donations to the CARAD Pantry.

The Donation Drive was the Town’s Community Development team’s initiative to support both the CARAD Pantry and the Star St Uniting Church outreach service.

We were very happy to welcome Mayor Karen Vernon to the Pantry, along with Debby, Marianna, and Maggie who delivered the donations directly to our door.

All donated items will go directly to supporting families and individuals seeking asylum in WA.
