'Pike River' tells the incredible true story of two women whose friendship gave them the strength to fight for justice following the 2010 Pike River Mine tragedy, which claimed the lives of 29 men underground.

We are especially privileged to have Joanne Ufer, who lost her son Joshua in the Pike River disaster to be speaking at this fund raiser. After losing her son Josh, Jo became a passionate advocate for workplace safety as well supporting families navigating the aftermath of work-related fatalities and life-changing injuries.

Professionally, Jo has over 15 years’ experience working within the mining industry in Queensland and New South Wales as dedicated Human Resources professional, a career that combines her passion for working with, caring for and bringing out the very best in people.

Since the passing of Andrew 'Carpet' Loizou, many people have asked how they can support his children during this difficult time.

In addition to the Miners' Promise memorial fund established to support the family a GoFundMe page has been created for those who wish to contribute.

One of our favourite events on the calendar did not disappoint! 💙

Last Saturday, 1 August 2026, Lewis Kemp, one of our dedicated Non-Executive Directors, attended the Kalgoorlie Masters Football Carnival on behalf of the Miners'​ Promise team. It was a fantastic day filled with great football, great people and an incredible sense of community.

As a proud charity partner, we are always grateful to be part of this iconic event. Each year, the Kalgoorlie Masters Football Club, School of Mines (WASM) and the participating companies rally behind Miners' Promise, raising vital funds that help us continue supporting mining and resources families through some of life's most challenging moments.

This year, we shared our blue Miners' Promise shoelaces and lace badges with players across the carnival, and it was wonderful to see so many wearing them throughout the day. Every pair worn was a visible reminder of the importance of looking out for one another—on the field, in the workplace and beyond.

A heartfelt thank you to WA School of Mines (WASM), Gold Fields Pty Ltd, Northern Star WA Operations, Banda Mining Ltd, Kalgoorlie Masters Football Club, and Evolution Mining Mungari Operations for your generosity and continued support. Your commitment makes a genuine difference to the families we walk alongside.

On Friday 24th July 2026 the mining industry experienced another tragic loss with the passing of Andrew 'Carpet' Loizou.

Andrew, loving partner of Amy and a Dad, Grandfather, Son, Brother, Friend and highly respected mining colleague is remembered as a larrikin with a kind-hearted soul and an infectious smile.

We are reaching out with love in our hearts to ask for your support.

Details of the Memorial Fund for Andrew is below, nothing can compensate for the loss of life, particularly in a tragic workplace accident, but every dollar raised will help Amy as she navigates the difficult journey ahead without her beloved by her side.

We are honoured, in the memory of Jimmy Lawn, to launch our third Miners'​ Promise Podcast with his loving son, Aaron Lawn.

The story that Aaron shares with Debbie Morrow, our Executive Director, is one of deep respect, love and loss; it is also a story of humour, honesty, resilience and the extraordinary impact that the right support can have when life changes in an instant.

Jimmy was a member of ‘My Promise’, our companion-model, which ensured every possible support - emotional, practical and financial - was available to his family. Of connecting with Miners’ Promise, Aaron says “The impact it has on families, attesting to that first hand is profound. Essentially you are providing that promise to your family that if something happens to you unexpectedly, they will be supported in that moment of need”.

Nine years after their loss of Jimmy we continue to be connected with the Lawn family; this is not unusual, we journey with families for months and years with our tailored care evolving over time to meet their needs and through participation in our 'Standing Together' gatherings.

🎙️ “That Was The Last Time I Ever Saw Him” | Joanne Ufer’s Story

The day after our Pike River movie fundraiser, Josh Collins from The Gold Room podcast sat down with Joanne Ufer to share the story of her son Josh, one of the 29 men who lost their lives in the Pike River Mine disaster on 19 November 2010.

What follows is a powerful and deeply personal conversation about loss, resilience, hope, and the real human impact behind every incident and the enduring strength of those left behind.

Jo takes us through the day everything changed, the agonising wait for answers, the years that followed, and the lessons she believes the mining industry must never forget.

More than fifteen years later, she continues to honour Josh’s legacy through her work with Miners'​ Promise, supporting mining families during some of the most difficult moments of their lives.

This is not a conversation about production, profits, or projects. It’s a conversation about people. A reminder that every worker who signs onto site is someone’s son, daughter, partner, parent, or friend. Let’s carry this with us, into every shift, every decision, every conversation. Our actions today ensure that everyone goes home safely tomorrow.

As the financial year closes we are asking our community to help us reach a $12,000 goal to support mining, energy and resources families impacted by tragic workplace accidents and workplace su***de.

Every dollar donated will go directly towards creating moments of compassion, care and connection for families journeying through their darkest of days.

Your EOFY donation is more than a contribution it is a reminder to families that their community is standing beside them.

Our $12,000 goal will fund:

🎁 $6,000 – Christmas Support for Children & Grandchildren
Every $200 donated will provide a thoughtful gift for the children and grandchildren of the families we support ensuring the youngest impacted by tragedy feel remembered, supported and cared for during a particularly difficult time of the year.

💛 $6,000 – Bringing Families Together to Honour their Loved Ones
Every $500 donated will help a family come together and honour their loved one on the anniversary of their passing.
