OzHarvest WA is bringing our legendary Apple Slinky stall to the Telethon Family Festival!

This is our chance to say a huge thank you to Telethon for their incredible support of our Nourishing our Schools program over the years. Happening on Sunday 18th October, our volunteers will be having a fun filled day twirling thousands of apples into spiralling slinkies and handing them out free to the crowds. It's hands-on, it's fun and an awesome way to give back to Telethon - all while putting smiles on hundreds of faces.

Telethon Family Festival happens on Sunday 18th October from 10am until 4pm. On Wellington St in Perth. Free Transperth public transport is available on the day. C*D parking will be limited with several roads in the vicinity of the event closed.

Happy Banana Day 🍌

Let's talk about the most under-appreciated hero in your fruit bowl. Bananas are among the most-binned foods in Aussie homes, often just because they've gone a bit spotty. But here at OzHarvest, we reckon a brown banana is a banana at its best ✨
Those freckles mean extra sweetness, and that's where the magic happens:
🍞 Banana bread. The classic for a reason. The browner the banana, the better the loaf.
🥤 Smoothies. Peel, chop and freeze your overripe bananas for a thick, creamy blend, no ice needed.
🍦 "Nice cream." Blitz frozen banana until it turns into soft serve. One ingredient, total magic.
🥞 Pancakes. Mash one banana with two eggs and you've got brekky sorted.
🍪 Bake swaps. Mashed banana can stand in for some of the sugar or butter in muffins and cookies.
🌱 The peel too! Pop it in the compost or worm farm and let it feed your garden.
So before that bunch heads for the bin, give it a second life. Your tastebuds (and the planet) will thank you 💛

Carrots come in all shapes and sizes — straight ones, spiral ones, ones that look like they're doing yoga, and the occasional carrot that's basically two carrots wrestling for dominance. But here's the thing: a crooked carrot doesn't deserve to be tossed aside. It's just as delicious, just as nourishing, and honestly? A lot more fun to look at.

Congratulations to Trevor, Warehouse Guru, Fleet Manager, and Driver Extraordinaire, on ten years with OzHarvest!

In just about everything that gets done here at OzHarvest WA, Trevor is somewhere behind the scenes, helping to make it happen. It would be hard to oversell how much Trev's work makes the day-to-day lives of everyone who works here easier, and I couldn't even begin to put a number on how many lives have been impacted by the amount of food Trevor has collected and distributed over the years, but I DO know that he's collected over 2,750,000 KGs in his time here.

Many of our biggest and best collections have happened specifically BECAUSE it was Trevor making the pickups. There's nobody better at finding a way to get a job done, because Trev understands that every pallet we collect and every KG we rescue can make all the difference to someone who needs help. When plans fall through, you can count on Trevor to be there to roll up his sleeves and get it done anyway.

For me personally, Trev has been the best "right hand man" and buddy, and I feel lucky to have spent the last ten years doing this work with him. Thanks Trevor!- Andrew Lowery
