Standing with our Pacific neighbours this Season of Creation
As the Uniting Church in Australia, we believe God calls us to care for creation and to seek justice with those most affected by climate change.
In 2018, the Assembly committed the Church to listening to people experiencing climate change firsthand, working with First Peoples and partner churches in the Pacific, advocating for government action, reducing our own contribution to climate change, and deepening our understanding of its causes and consequences.
This commitment takes on renewed significance during the Season of Creation.
From 2-4 October, we invite Uniting Church members and communities to join in prayer, reflection and worship, holding our Pacific neighbours in our hearts as the Pacific Conference of Churches gathers in Fiji ahead of the pre-COP climate summit.
For many Pacific communities, climate change is already affecting homes, livelihoods, cultures and connections to land and sea. Their voices remind us that climate action is not only an environmental issue. It is an issue of justice, dignity and love of neighbour.
On Tuesday 6 October, faith communities across Australia will gather in public witness, standing alongside our Pacific neighbours and calling for a Fossil Fuel Treaty and a fair transition away from fossil fuels.
Every prayer, every conversation and every act of solidarity matters.
