E-WA Rotary

E-WA Rotary E-WA Rotary a modern, flexible Rotary Club. We organise online but volunteer and have fun in person Our meetings entail logging into a weekly “webinar”.

About E-WA

EWA Rotary Club is Western Australia’s first online Rotary E-Club. Online Rotary E-Clubs around the world allow members to give to the greater community when getting to meetings is difficult. E-WA Rotary acknowledges the traditional custodians throughout Western Australia and their continuing connection to the land, waters and community. We pay our respects to all members of Aboriginal

communities and their cultures; and to Elders past, present and emerging. Learn more about the traditional lands of First Nations people here: https://aiatsis.gov.au/explore/map-indigenous-australia

EWA Rotary caters to members who are:

* Located too far from a Rotary Club to make regular meetings
* Required to travel for work, including Fly-In Fly-Out professionals
* Unable to leave young children, or family members during typical meeting times

We conduct our work online, with occasional face-to-face meetings at different locations around WA. Alternatively, members who cannot join a scheduled meeting can login anytime and participate in discussions in our online group. Our members find ways to use diverse locations, and online presence to help our local, and global communities. Want to find out more? Contact Kate or Kero by way of a message to this page.

Thank you Don

Today, we honour the life and legacy of 𝐃𝐨𝐧 𝐆𝐨𝐫𝐝𝐨𝐧, who has passed away at the remarkable age of 101.

Don was more than a dedicated Rotarian.

He was one of the visionaries who helped bring Australian Rotary Health to life.

In the early 1980s, when Ian Scott first proposed the idea of a national Rotary-funded health research foundation, Don was among those who saw the potential of what could be achieved.

As the President of the Rotary Club of Mornington, a key member of the inaugural committee established to guide the project, and later a Foundation Member of Australian Rotary Health, Don played a pivotal role in helping transform an ambitious idea into reality.

More than four decades later, that vision has grown into Australia's largest independent funder of mental health research. Australian Rotary Health has invested tens of millions of dollars into research, scholarships and health initiatives that have improved the lives of countless Australians.

That impact exists because people like Don believed it was possible.

Throughout his life, Don remained a passionate supporter of Australian Rotary Health and Rotary's commitment to improving the health and wellbeing of communities. In recognition of his extraordinary contribution, he was honoured as an Australian Rotary Health Ruby Companion. His legacy will continue to be felt through every researcher, scholar and community touched by the work he helped create.

Because of Don.

Because of his vision. Because of his belief in a better future. Lives have been changed.

On behalf of Australian Rotary Health, we extend our deepest condolences to Don's family, friends, fellow Rotarians and the Rotary Club of Mornington.

Thank you, Don.

Your legacy lives on.

Concerning news below. Western Australia's chief health officer, Dr Clare Huppatz, has confirmed this represents a very low risk to the population but it’s an important reminder that polio could be everywhere until it is nowhere.

Poliovirus has been detected in a sample taken from a wastewater in Perth, the Health Department reveals.

It is with deep regret that E-WA Rotary has cancelled our Rotary Wheatbelt Swim for Reading 2026. The decision was taken in consultation with our key stakeholders and has taken into consideration several factors, including the deteriorating fuel situation, worsening weather forecasts and the possibility of thunderstorm activity on 28 March.

This is a young woman who loves her community. We first met Imogen as a volunteer for the Rotary Wheatbelt Swim for Reading. We’ll be back in Bruce Rock on March 28th but before we turn our attention to fundraising for local schools, we’re making one last call out for donations to help Imogen secure caravan accommodation so she can finish her nursing studies. Details in link in comments.

Announcing the Arnold–Strange Rotary Community Challenge

We’re excited to share some wonderful news ahead of the Rotary Wheatbelt Swim for Reading in Bruce Rock on 28 March.

The E-WA Rotary Board has resolved to rename the Rotary Community Challenge, in perpetuity, as the Arnold–Strange Rotary Community Challenge.

For more than a decade, Stephen Strange and Chris Arnold have provided tremendous support to the Swim, our Rotary Love of Reading Project, the RYPEN youth development program, and the many community efforts that make these initiatives possible in Bruce Rock and Narembeen.

Their commitment to strengthening opportunities for local young people — has made a real and lasting difference.

We’re proud to recognise two outstanding community leaders in this way.

The poster for the Arnold–Strange Rotary Community Challenge is attached — please share it widely with friends, neighbours, past swimmers and RYPEN alumni. Let’s see the community get behind the Challenge again in 2026!

Because in the end, the real winners of the Arnold–Strange Rotary Community Challenge are the children of our two Wheatbelt communities. 📖✨

See you at the Swim!

Thanks to your support, and the matching grant via RAWCS - Rotary Australia World Community Service we are 87% closer to our goal of helping rural nursing student Imogen to buy a second hand caravan so that she has a safe place to sleep instead of driving for hours multiple times a week to complete her course. Please check the link in bio/comments to learn more.

I’m sure some of my Rotary friends and Nursing friends could help Imogen. She is already showing her determination to be a fabulous nurse.

This is Imogen. She is a young woman from Bruce Rock who is determined to become a nurse so she can help her rural community. Currently she is driving 3-4 hours a day to attend her nursing course in Northam - but she has the chance to change this by purchasing a second hand caravan so she has a safe place to sleep. Help us help her reach this goal. Link to donate in bio/comments.
