Have You Structured Your Super to Protect Your Child’s Future?

For parents of children with a disability, planning ahead means thinking beyond today and ensuring there’s financial security in place for the years to come.

One important area that’s often overlooked is your superannuation and any insurance attached to it. When structured correctly, it can play a powerful role in supporting your child’s future.

Do you know?
• Your super doesn’t automatically form part of your Estate, even if you have a Will.
• This means your super fund may decide who receives your benefit unless you’ve made your intentions clear.
• A binding death benefit nomination allows you to direct your super (and any life insurance held within it) to the right place including your Estate, so it can be distributed according to your wishes.
• Keeping your nomination up to date and aligned with your Estate planning is essential to ensure the outcome you intend.

Our volunteers are one of our greatest resources, and we are so lucky to have such a warm, committed, and fabulous team supporting us in so many ways, as Board members, Personal Safeguarding Service visitors, event assistants, and interns.

✨ It’s Run Week! ✨

This Sunday, our incredible Future Living Trust team will be hitting the pavement for the HBF Run for a Reason and the energy is building! 🏃‍♀️💙

From early morning training sessions to playlist prep, our team is putting in the effort to make every step count.

A quick update from our Chair, Julie:
“Training is happening! My last 6km jog/walk took just under 1 hour, so the goal is to finish the 12km event under 2 hours. Let’s see how things shape up! More importantly, I’m putting my run playlist together! Any suggestions welcome" 🎶

But this is about more than just the finish line. Every dollar raised helps us continue supporting people with disability to live the life they choose.

Future Planning - The Sibling Experience

At the recent Disability Assembly WA Summit, one of our family members, Jo Turner, was the spotlight speaker.

Jo shared her powerful story about the importance of planning for the future, and the thoughtful arrangements her parents put in place for her sister, who has a disability.

Having the right plan in place is not only a prudent step, it also brings peace of mind for the whole family, including siblings who are often the ones to step in as parents age or move into aged care.

Now that Jo’s mum is no longer able to provide support, Jo and her brother can confidently carry out the plans their parents established earlier for their sister.
