Spotlight: Cara, a 23-year-old Perth creative behind Lollipop of Love Designs and DJ Incredable , and her short film entry in the Focus on Ability Festival, In My Own Tempo.

Behind Cara’s work is a story of drive, talent and passion. Her short film, In My Own Tempo, appears in the 2026 Focus on Ability catalogue as an Open Entrant Documentary and offers a glimpse into Cara’s creative journey, love of music, and determination to do things in her own way and time. Future Living is delighted to announce Lotterywest funding for the Education, Access and Capacity (EAC) Initiative, a major project that will help more people with disability and their families access information, education and support across Western Australia.

We were honoured to welcome Hon Hannah Beazley MLA , Minister for Disability Services, and Hon Ayor Makur Chuot MLC to our Subiaco office to officially present the Lotterywest grant cheque and celebrate this important investment in the community.

Lotterywest's support will enable Future Living to expand education and outreach activities, develop accessible resources, strengthen community connections, and enhance digital tools that help people with disability and their families plan for the future with greater confidence.

The EAC Initiative is a five-year project co-funded by Lotterywest and the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation, bringing together two valued funding partners who share a commitment to improving outcomes for Western Australians with disability and their families.

During the visit, we had the opportunity to discuss the growing need for practical information, future planning support and accessible resources, and how this funding will help ensure more individuals and families can access the guidance they need, regardless of where they live.

"We are incredibly grateful to Lotterywest for their support of this initiative and for recognising the importance of education, accessibility and future planning for people with disability and their families," said Erin Taylor, CEO of Future Living. "This funding will help us expand our reach, strengthen our resources and connect with more communities across WA. We were delighted to welcome Minister Beazley and Hon Ayor Makur Chuot to our office and share our vision for the impact this project will achieve."

We spent a beautiful morning for our Family Education Series workshop at Herdsman Lake Discovery Centre with the incredible Darren Peterson from Take Charge Wellbeing.

Darren shared practical and effective strategies to help manage racing thoughts, calm our nerves during anxious moments, and bring our focus back to the present. It was a valuable reminder that while many of us are carrying full schedules and genuine concerns about the future, it is still important to make space to enjoy what is happening right now.

Thank you to all of our community members who joined us today. We hope you left with some useful tools that you can incorporate into everyday life and that the session will continue to make a positive difference long after today.

Join our team – Community Engagement Coordinator (0.5 FTE)

We're excited to be launching our new Education, Access and Capacity Initiative, a significant five-year project made possible through the generous support of the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation and Lotterywest.

As we begin this important work, we're looking for a passionate and community-focused Community Engagement Coordinator (0.5 FTE) to join the Future Living team.

This role will work closely with families, schools, community organisations and stakeholders across Western Australia to increase awareness of future planning, support co-design activities, facilitate navigation meetings, and help shape the next generation of Future Living resources and programs.

If you're passionate about disability and family supports, enjoy building relationships, and want to make a meaningful difference for families across WA, we'd love to hear from you.

Who will look out for my child when I'm no longer around?

It's a question many parents and carers think about but find difficult to ask.

Future Living's Personal Safeguarding Service provides regular independent visits for people with disability when family members are no longer able to be involved.

Our carefully matched visitors get to know your loved one, spend time with them, and notice when things may not be quite right, giving families peace of mind that someone is always keeping an eye on their wellbeing.

Future Living is proud to continue its long-standing partnership with the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation, following the award of grant funding for a new five-year initiative supporting families of children with disability across Western Australia.

Since 2004, the Foundation's support has played a significant role in helping Future Living deliver specialised, sustainable services for people with disability and their families. This enduring partnership has enabled the organisation to respond to emerging community needs and strengthen long-term outcomes for Western Australian families.

The new initiative will provide early-stage education, planning tools, digital resources, and personalised support to families navigating their child's disability journey. With growing demand for services across WA, the project aims to address key concerns around safety, future planning, and long-term wellbeing by equipping families with the knowledge and confidence to make informed decisions.

Over the next five years, Future Living will deliver school presentations, regional outreach, community workshops, practical planning resources, and enhanced online education tools. A key component of the project will be the redevelopment of Future Living's website and digital planning resources to improve accessibility and support families throughout metropolitan and regional Western Australia.

"Our long-standing partnership with the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation has had a lasting impact on our ability to support families across Western Australia," said Erin Taylor, CEO of Future Living. "We are incredibly grateful for their continued trust and generosity. This funding will allow us to provide families with practical guidance, resources, and support early in their journey, helping them plan for the future with greater confidence and peace of mind."

The project will be independently evaluated by the University of Notre Dame to help measure outcomes and guide continuous improvement over the five-year period.
