Today marks the start of National Reconciliation Week - a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures, and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2026 is 'All In', which is a call for all Australians to commit wholeheartedly to reconciliation every single day.

The City of Canning is committed to reconciliation and will be celebrating the week with a number of free events, including a Paint the Country session, a Community Cultural Learning Session and the launch of a set of 12 free Aboriginal-themed bookmarks, released monthly at the City's Libraries.

This year, and every year, the City of Canning is 'All In'. Find out more at canning.wa.gov.au/reconciliation.

On National Sorry Day, we acknowledge the strength of Stolen Generations Survivors.

This year marks the 29th anniversary of the Australian Parliamentโ€™s tabling of the Bringing Them Home report in 1997. A report on the national inquiry into the forced separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children from their families, which made wide-ranging recommendations to address the harm caused to Stolen Generations Survivors and their families.

Learn more about the recommendations on The Healing Foundation website: healingfoundation.org.au.

The City of Canning respectfully acknowledges the resilience of survivors and stands with our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community as we continue on a path towards reconciliation.

This Sunday 10 May, Shelley Foreshore is the perfect place to spend Motherโ€™s Day with family, friends and the special mums in your life.

With its beautiful open parklands, riverside views and brilliant multi-generational playground, Shelley Foreshore offers something for everyone โ€” from the little kids burning off energy, to families enjoying a picnic, walk or relaxing day by the river.

To help accommodate additional parking needs on the day, the overflow carpark will be open.
