Mental health is a team sport. 💙🏀

A huge thank you to the Perth Wildcats and Rio Tinto for bringing the second annual Mental Health Game to life in support of Lifeline WA, giving us the opportunity to remind thousands of basketball fans that support is always available.

Thanks to the incredible generosity of the Wildcats and Rio Tinto community, over $14,640 was raised, enough to help answer over 375 crisis calls to Lifeline WA.

We were also proud to share the importance of mental health with players, fans and the wider community, helping start conversations that can make a real difference. In the lead-up to the game, the Wildcats players helped spread this message through social content, using their platform to encourage open conversations about mental health and remind people that reaching out for support is a sign of strength.

A very special thank you to the dedicated volunteers from Lifeline WA and Rio Tinto whose energy, enthusiasm and generosity helped make the day such a success. From engaging with fans to helping create a welcoming and meaningful game-day experience, your contribution made a real difference.

Last week, we had a full-circle moment.

We returned to the airwaves of 6PR Perth with some very special members of our Lifeline WA community to reflect on 40 years of listening, and to raise funds for the conversations still to come.

Back in 1986, Graham Mabury OAM’s Nightline program helped bring together a community of people who cared deeply about supporting others through life’s toughest moments. Through those conversations, and the generosity of the community, Lifeline WA’s journey began.

Throughout the day, we heard from some incredible people who make Lifeline WA what it is today.

Sarah Fordham, CEO, and Adrian Momber, Crisis Supporter, opened the day by sharing why community support matters so deeply.

Graham Mabury OAM returned to the 6PR studio to reflect on the early days of Lifeline WA and reconnect with callers who had shared in that journey.

Vince Garreffa once again reminded us of the power of generosity and community, kindly donating two private dinners to help raise vital funds.

Karen and Jace, two of our Digital Team Leads, shared why every story matters, and why every person who reaches out deserves to be heard.

Thank you to everyone who tuned in, shared our message & donated to Lifeline WA, and a special thanks to 6PR Perth for welcoming us into the studios. Together we raised more than $70,000 for Lifeline WA’s Crisis Support Services.

This Saturday, Owen is cycling 200km for Lifeline WA.

After a stranger encouraged him to seek help, Owen reached out to Lifeline WA during a difficult time in his life. Now, he's giving back by taking on an incredible 200km ride to help ensure others know support is available when they need it most.

It's hard to put into words the impact Vincenzo Garreffa has had on Lifeline WA, but for those who tuned in to his segment on our 6PR Perth 40 Years of Listening Radio Giving Day, it offered just a glimpse of the generosity he's shown us over the past four decades.

This afternoon, Vince generously donated two private dinners for two lucky donors, helping to raise an incredible $10,000 to support Lifeline WA's crisis support services.

Back in 1986, our story began on the airwaves of 6PR Perth's Nightline with Graham Mabury OAM.

What started as a small group of volunteers answering calls through the night has grown into a service supporting thousands of Western Australians every year.

On Tuesday 6 October, Graham returns to the airwaves for the 40 Years of Listening Radio Giving Day, celebrating the journey so far and helping ensure support remains available for the conversations still to come.

Would you know where to turn if you or someone you care about was struggling?

Join Lifeline WA for a free community session at Bunbury Geographe Chamber of Commerce and Industry designed to help you better understand the support available and feel more confident reaching out for help when it's needed.

Developed in collaboration with Derbarl Yerrigan Health Service Aboriginal Corporation and McNeair Aboriginal Psychological Services, this session will provide insight into what happens when someone contacts Lifeline or 13YARN, the support these services offer, and how to connect yourself, a friend, family member or colleague with the right help.

Many of us want to support the people around us, but aren't always sure where to start. This session aims to build understanding, reduce barriers to seeking support, and empower people to take action early.
