Nice tailor have been picked up at Mewstones and Stragglers should be holding them as well, along with skippy. Sand whiting with a few King George whiting mixed in have been caught from Fremantle right up to Mindarie but squid have been scarcer this week with Fremantle waters the best bet. Sand whiting have also been out along the shipping channels out from Fremantle.When conditions allowed tuna were caught either side of Rottnest Island and the back of Garden Island.Finding the baitfish and working birds was where the tuna were generally found.Trolling for chopper tailor in the lower and middle sections of the Swan River has been productive.

⚠ Heads up to fishers from Cape Naturaliste to Cape Leeuwin planning to fish from Saturday 17 October to Sunday 18 October, and fishers from Denham to Esperance planning to fish from Tuesday 20 October to Sunday 25 October.

Hazardous fishing conditions are forecast for these parts of the WA coast, with elevated swell heights expected as cold fronts move through on Saturday morning and again on Tuesday.

INFO:

- South-westerly swells of around 3m with periods of 14–16 seconds are expected from midday Saturday 17 October, peaking at 3.5m overnight before easing below 3m from late Sunday afternoon.
- A second period of elevated swell is expected from Tuesday evening, 20 October, with south-westerly swells exceeding 3m between Cape Naturaliste and Albany.
- By Thursday morning, 22 October, elevated swells are expected to extend north to Denham and east to Esperance.
- Swells could peak at around 5m along the South-West Capes, with long swell periods of 16–18 seconds.
- Swells are expected to ease below 3m along the west and south coasts from Saturday evening, 24 October, into Sunday morning, 25 October. Swells around the South-West Capes may remain above 3m until Sunday afternoon.

If you know anyone planning to fish in these regions during this time off the rocks or on the boat, make sure you share this warning with them. We will continue to share our Hazardous Fishing Alerts until the start of winter in 2027. Remember, no fish is worth your life.

Results are in for the last mixed bag comp. The conditions on the water were good early until an early sea breeze came in. Winner of the day was Charlie with a good bag of KGW and a large flathead with a total weight of 10.32kg. Second was Noel with 10.27kg and Jason came in third. Fish of the day was called for a KGW and Mark St took the honors with a fish of 0.84kg.
