🎣 BIG news for Perth fishers - the iconic Ammo Jetty is set for a huge comeback!

A major step has been taken towards building the brand-new T-head Ammo Jetty at Woodman Point, with construction contracts now awarded for the $17.3 million redevelopment.

This was announced before this weekend's storm damage to the existing jetty - and we hope to see speedy progress made to the construction phase.

For generations of West Aussies, Ammo Jetty has been one of Perth’s most loved land-based fishing spots - producing everything from herring, squid and whiting to salmon and even Spanish mackerel.

The new jetty will deliver safer, better and more accessible fishing, including a substantial new 50m T-head that will more than double fishing space in deeper water.

Recfishwest’s Levi De Boni, who grew up fishing the old Ammo Jetty, said the project means a lot to the community.

“It’s a place that holds a lot of memories for many West Aussies,” Levi said.

“Having more space on the new T-head and better access to deeper water will make a massive difference at one of Perth’s truly iconic fishing locations.”

Great to see this exciting project moving forward for the metro fishing community 🙌 Read more here https://bit.ly/3S0e9AV

The project has been guided by a working group including Recfishwest, Fishability, Transport WA, City of Cockburn, and other agencies.

The late autumn run of squid has been one of the best in recent memory with plenty of bag-outs achieved. South Fremantle and Rottnest have been hotspots, but waters off Cottesloe and Hillarys have also produced. Big King George whiting were landed behind Carnac and Garden island and squid, a little on the smallish side, have been in big numbers throughout Cockburn Sound. Fremantle’s inshore waters have yielded skippy, herring and sand whiting, while Mewstones and Stragglers have failed to fire for salmon but tailor, herring and skippy have been in good numbers. North metro inshore waters have offered a mix of sand whiting, skippy and King George whiting. Before the winter front hit yellowtail kingfish were in good numbers at the Fish Towers, keeping company with small tuna.
