Every independent early learning service has a story.

A story shaped by the children, families and educators who walk through its doors, and by the community it has grown alongside.

Many locally owned services have spent years, and sometimes generations, building trusted relationships within their neighbourhoods. They understand their communities because they are part of them.

Proudly Independent, Proudly Local is here to share these stories and highlight the people, purpose and commitment behind independent early learning.

Did you know 79 per cent of government-approved early learning service providers in Australia operate just one service?

Behind many of these independently owned centres are local people employing local educators, supporting families and building relationships within their communities, sometimes across generations.

The Australian Childcare Alliance’s new Proudly Independent, Proudly Local campaign is putting these providers in the spotlight and calling for greater recognition of the different operating realities faced by small, independent early learning services.

It also raises a bigger question for the ECEC sector: should policy and funding settings do more to recognise the diversity of Australia’s provider landscape?

Early childhood educators give so much of themselves every day — to children, families and their teams.

With Early Childhood Educators’ Day coming up, ACA WA wanted to do something tangible to recognise that contribution and give something back.

On Thursday 17 September, we’re bringing Chris Phoenix from Phoenix Support for Educators to Perth for a dedicated Educator Wellbeing session.

Complimentary ACA WA member places will be available, with full booking details released next week.

For now, save the date:

📅 Thursday 17 September 2026
🕐 1:00pm–3:00pm
📍 John McGrath Hall & Pavilion, South Perth

Because recognising educators should be about more than saying thank you — it should also be about investing in the people who give so much.
