The Australian Childcare Alliance Western Australia (ACA WA) is the leading peak body representing early education and care services across the state. As the largest voice for the sector, our diverse membership spans metropolitan, rural, regional, and remote communities—reflecting a rich mix of private, community-based, faith-based, and local government services. We are a not-for-profit member association committed to advocacy, collaboration, and sector leadership. ACA WA works closely with other peak organisations to strengthen outcomes for children, families, and the services that support them. Our mission is to bring together educators, government, and community partners to champion high-quality early learning and care. The Census provides an important snapshot of our early childhood education and care workforce, helping inform future workforce planning, policies and programs.

CCS-approved vacation care services are required to participate in the Census.

Check your registration details and prepare to submit your workforce information for the reference week.

When an incident happens at an early learning service, what you do next matters.
Managing the immediate needs of children and educators will always come first — but good incident management also means knowing what needs to happen afterwards.

ACA National partner Guild Insurance recommends services:
🔹 create a clear and detailed incident record as soon as possible
🔹 notify the Regulatory Authority where required
🔹 seek advice before responding to a written complaint
🔹 notify your insurer promptly where an incident may lead to a claim.

WA regional, rural and remote early learning services need solutions designed for their realities.

ACA WA has lodged our submission to the Senate Inquiry into the state of Australia’s early childhood education and care system in regional, rural and remote communities.

Drawing on the experiences shared with us by WA services and communities, our submission highlights challenges that can look very different outside metropolitan areas.

Some consistent themes emerged:
🏠 Workforce and housing are inseparable — attracting educators means little if there is nowhere for them to live.

📍 Small services need sustainable models — conventional occupancy and funding models do not always work in small communities.

📅 Demand doesn’t always fit traditional operating models — families need early learning on particular days, seasons or around local employment patterns.

🚗 Distance changes everything — accessing relief staff, professional development, maintenance and specialist support involves hundreds of kilometres.

Regional access cannot simply be measured by whether a service exists on a map. A service also needs the workforce, funding and operating capacity to remain open and meet the needs of its community.

ACA WA will continue advocating for approaches that recognise the different realities of delivering early childhood education and care across regional, rural and remote Western Australia.

🔴 ACTION | Credit card surcharge changes from 1 October

FROM TOMORROW Thursday 1 October 2026, new card scheme rules will mean businesses can no longer add a separate surcharge to most card payments.

For early childhood education and care services, this means it is important to review how card processing costs are currently passed on to families.

Services should now:
• Check whether your payment platform currently adds a card surcharge to family payments.
• Confirm with your payment provider what will change from 1 October.
• Review alternative payment options, including direct debit from a bank account where available.
• Consider carefully how any unrecovered transaction costs are managed within your service fees.

⚠️ Services receiving the Worker Retention Payment should also be mindful of the applicable fee-growth cap when considering any changes to family fees.

ACA WA encourages services to review their payment arrangements now rather than waiting until transactions are affected.

These guidelines will support the holistic approach for staff and children and their association with food and nutrition. We look forward to the positive outcomes these guidelines will achieve for the children of our future.

Today our educator members attended our wellbeing workshop presented by Chris Phoenix from Phoenix Support for EducatorsIt was a wonderful 2 hours focused on wellbeing and ensuring we fill our own cup first ! Thanks to CTAS Education- RTO Code 51849 for attending also !
