TODD RUSSELL - RIP Last Monday evening we edited the recent Tribal Fires podcast 'Communities'.
This has been the way I have been able to produce and upload the 37 episodes since Tribal Fires commenced some three years ago.
Todd has edited Dumbartungs works including all our conference presentations, rallies, archived all our history including photographs, DVD presentations, media articles, that span four decades of our work in the Nyoongah community.

Todd did this without ever asking or taking any financial payments from Dumbartung.

During the podcast edits we shared many hours of coming to know each other, this turned into the closest friendship over the sixteen years of knowing each other.

He became my friend, brother, comrade and strongest supporter of our cause and resistance.

For this with tears in my eyes and a heavy heart, I salute my brother for the morning after he passed away from a massive heart attack. I respect, cherish and loved his commitment to my work and Dumbartung. I will miss him deeply and will never forget his most warm humanity and above all I will always know that Todd my brother made possible the stories and legacy of Dumbartung was not only archived for the future, but he also made it possible for the truth telling of Dumbartung to be heard around the world.
Todd was the unseen and unheard action of Dumbartung that ensured that our Campfires Burned strongly, as they now dim, whilst we regain our strength to rise up against this crushing grief and sadness of the loss of a true warrior.

Journey strongly my brother with the knowing that our hearts beat as always together, we are stronger in our struggle and commitment to truth against all odds and adversities because you were with us in the light and darkness and for that your spirit lives on in our work and our hearts.

Much sympathy to Ruby, Gail, Mark, Kylie and all his family. You're loving and trusted Brother Robert.

This story of Tribal Fires center's on the Dumbartungs maxim, "May our Campfires Burn Forever". Its origin, purpose, and how NAIDOC eclipsed and whitewashed its true meaning and, without any form of consultation, used it in their 2024 slogan "Keep the Fire Burning."

This episode also gives evidence of other forms of cultural exploitation and is an ongoing tribute to the young people in our community, who will carry our stories into future generations.
