Meet Jasmin
Every week, Jasmin had something to look forward to.
Horse riding.
For Jasmin, horses became more than just an activity - they became a source of joy, confidence and independence.
Before receiving a Variety WA Heart Scholarship, the cost of lessons, competitions and specialist riding equipment created barriers to fully participating in the thing she loved most. But thanks to the scholarship, Jasmin was able to immerse herself in the world of horse riding.
Each week, she visited Riding for the Disabled Association, where she learned not only how to ride, but how to care for horses too - grooming, feeding and saddling them before lessons. Over time, she built skills, confidence and friendships, while competing in dressage, jumping, trail riding, gymkhana and even the Special Olympics.
For Jasmin’s mum, Monika, the transformation was impossible to miss.
“Every week felt like a birthday and Christmas present,” she says. “She always looked forward to learning more about horses. It made her so happy.”
Beyond the arena, horse riding helped Jasmin develop confidence, communication, teamwork and independence - skills that continue to support her in everyday life.
Most importantly, says Monika, the scholarship gave Jasmin the opportunity to simply enjoy her passion.
“For a moment, her disability is forgotten. What more could you wish for?”
