We were fortunate enough to have Lili Wilkinson visit us last week, for our final Perth Metro Young Writers workshops for the term. 📚🍄

Our Year 9+ writers got an in-depth masterclass on the creation of novels, developing setting, characters, and plot. With a variety of writing exercises to get their creative ideas flowing, we're sure that some exceptional stories will develop from these young writers.

We'd like to thank Lili for coming to Perth to share her experience and expertise with our Term 2 attendees!

As National Reconciliation Week comes to a close, this year’s theme, All In, reminds us that reconciliation is an ongoing commitment. It is something we must all continue to reflect on, learn from and work towards.

The Literature Centre recognises the pivotal and long-lasting impact first nations people have had on storytelling in Australia and around the world.

It is critical for all Australians to take part in working towards reconciliation, in order to build a community that preserves the history and culture that came before us, and supports the stories and people of today and the future.

Kathryn Lefroy visited us last week for our Year 7-8 Young Writers workshops. 📚

The writers had the opportunity to explore a whole new form of storytelling this term, with Kathryn sharing her expertise in screenwriting. They now know the process of adapting a scene for the screen - and even acted out their own scripts!

We'd love to thank Kathryn for sharing her experience with the up-and-coming writers, and for a week of engaging workshops. 📝

Mark Greenwood visited Bunbury and Busselton last week for our regional Young Writers workshops!

The writers got to learn about Phar Lap, the story of the Tasmanian Tiger, and had many writing tips to jot down during the workshop. 🐎

Thank you to Mark for bringing his history mystery knowledge to the south-west.

We had some wonderful Year 6 Young Writers workshops with Chenèe Marrapodi last week. 📚📝

Chenèe shared her journalism expertise with the writers, giving them the chance to perform interviews, organise information into a story, and work to a tight deadline.

They now know the importance of research for both fiction and non-fiction pieces, and the french names for a few ballet positions. 🩰

We'd love to thank Chenèe for visiting us this Term!

Have you heard about our literature workshops? 📚

TLC creates engaging learning experiences that link to the Western Australian curriculum, catering to specific year groups and learning levels. We have an array of literary texts to choose from, one of which is 'Stellarphant' by James Foley.

Our 'Stellarphant' workshops explore:
- The effect of choice when framing an image, placement of elements in the image and salience on composition of texts.
- Describing the effects of text structures and language features in literary texts when responding to and sharing opinions.
- Using comprehension strategies, such as visualising, predicting, connecting, summarising, monitoring and questioning when listening, reading and viewing.
