AusAlert

AusAlert is an emergency warning system that uses the latest technology to send alerts directly to compatible mobile devices during disasters. It helps keep Australian communities informed, protecting lives and property.

AusAlert will be ready to use in October 2026, but before it launches, the system will be tested in local communities.

AusAlert will be tested in selected communities across Australia in June 2026.
For WA that community is:
Goomalling, WA
12:00 pm Friday 19 June 2026

A test alert will be sent to all mobile devices in the selected testing area at the time of the test. If you are in the test area with a compatible mobile device you may receive the alert.

Devices may vibrate and play a siren-like warning sound for about 10 seconds.

An AusAlert message may appear on device screens. It will clearly say it is a test.

On Monday 27 July 2026, a test alert will be sent to all mobile devices in Australia.

For Western Australia (WA) - 12:00 pm

Perth will see a rare total lunar eclipse on 3 March, with the Moon glowing copper red at prime time. Find out when to look up and the cause.

25/02/2026

**ASTRONOMICAL EVENT ALERT!!**

Once again, the Moon will enter the Shadow of Earth and give us Earthlings (Perthlings) front row seating for a Total Lunar Eclipse.

This "rare" event is a pretty amazing sight to behold, especially as the partially eclipsed moon will be seen rising over the Darling Escarpment. As the Moon ascends higher into the sky, the deeper into Earth's shadow it will travel.

Some people refer to this as "The Blood Moon"

Talk about being overly dramatic!
The Moon will slowly turn a deep, coppery-orange colour. This is due to the longer wavelengths of light (oranges and reds) being scattered deeper into the shadow created by Earth.

Chief Astronomer Rick will be heading out to do a LiveSky Astronomy broadcast for international Astronomy Education provider, SLOOH. This broadcast will be streamed via our YouTube channel (there will be no witty commentary from Rick this time around - thank god i can hear you say....)

Grab a camera (or your phone), maybe a picnic dinner (and that someone special) and head out for this "Many Times in a Lifetime Experience" (it ain't that rare, despite what social media says...)

Almost forgot!
What time and what date I hear you ask?

Date: Tuesday 3rd March 2026
Time: Starts around 7:00pm AWST -

Look to the east in the direction of the rising Moon.

The Eclipse finishes around 9:20pm AWST

Send in your photos, we'd love to see them!

What has been your favourite scouting moment?

Happy Founder’s Day!
Today, we celebrate the legacy of our founder, Lord Baden-Powell, and the incredible impact the Scouting movement has had on millions of lives worldwide.

A movement rooted in service, adventure, friendship, and a deep belief in the potential of young people. Founder’s Day is also a time to renew our commitment to the Scout Promise and Law - to be people of character, courage, compassion, and hope.
