To be eligible, you need to:
✅ Be over 16
✅ Hold a current patrolling award, from Radio Operator with Observer Award through to Bronze Medallion

Not a current award holder? No problem. We'll help you work towards achieving one!

Drone Patrols currently run on Sunday mornings, and we'd love to train more members so we can add Saturday patrols also.

Beaches reopen today. Always keep an eye on sharksmart for the latest shark sightings reported by lifesavers, the public or tagged sharks. Download sharksmart from the app store.

All Town of Cambridge beaches will reopen to swimmers and other water users from tomorrow morning (7 October) after follow-up water testing confirmed that bacterial levels are within safe limits.

The Town received laboratory results today for ocean water samples collected on 5 October. Testing for E. coli and enterococci returned acceptable results at all three sampling locations.

The results were provided to the Department of Health for review. The Department has confirmed that the water quality is acceptable and that members of the public can resume swimming and other recreational water activities.

Shark advice continues to be monitored separately. Beach users should check the SharkSmart website or app for current shark activity and alerts. Shark sightings should be reported to Water Police on (08) 9442 8600.

Hopefully beaches open soon...

All Town of Cambridge beaches will remain closed to swimmers and other water users for at least an additional 24 hours following advice from the Department of Health that current bacterial levels may create a health risk to water users.

Water samples collected on 2 October from City Beach, City Beach North, and Floreat Beach showed high levels of E. coli at all three sites. The Department has advised that the results indicate recent contamination, highly likely linked to the whale carcass that was recently at South City Beach.

The whale carcass has been removed and the affected sand has been cleaned and remediated. However, based on the water sample results, the Department of Health has recommended that beaches remain closed to water users, and closure signs remain in place until testing shows bacterial levels are back within safe limits.

The Town has undertaken further sampling on 5 October, and will share the results with the community once they are available.

Until the Town advises otherwise, the community is asked not to enter the water at any Town beach. This includes swimming, surfing, bodyboarding and paddling. Please also keep dogs out of the water.

Keep an eye on the Town of Cambridge socials for updates

⚠️ ALL TOWN OF CAMBRIDGE BEACHES ARE CLOSED ⚠️

As a precaution, the Town has closed all of our beaches following the arrival of a large whale carcass at South City Beach and reports of sharks close to shore.
What we're asking everyone to do:
🚫 Stay out of the water
🚫 Keep away from the carcass and work area
✅ Follow the directions of Rangers and lifesavers
✅ Check SharkSmart for official updates

What's happening:
We're working with DBCA to plan and carry out the safe removal of the carcass as soon as is practical. The Town is coordinating the heavy machinery, contractors and operational support needed, and specialist staff are on site to plan the removal. DPIRD and Surf Life Saving WA are providing shark and beach safety information.
The beaches will stay closed while the carcass is present and until it is safe to reopen them.
