I have great news for animals in WA today, which honestly feels far too rare.

Today, the WA Parliament supported the motion I moved calling for an investigation into removing dingoes from WA’s biosecurity laws as “pests” and investigating an end to cruel, government-funded 1080 baiting and strychnine trapping programs.

This is a significant moment.

Because for too long, outdated regulations built around poisoning, trapping and persecution have been treated as normal.

Today, Parliament acknowledged these laws and practices deserve serious scrutiny.

Dingoes are not pests. They are native apex predators, deeply important to ecosystems, biodiversity and First Nations culture.
And the reality of these programs is confronting.

1080 has no antidote. Strychnine has no antidote. And in Murchison Shire, a $100 bounty is still paid for a dingo scalp in 2026!

That is what we are asking Parliament to investigate.

This motion was never about ignoring regional concerns. It was about asking whether there is a better, more evidence-based and more compassionate way forward.

Thank you to every scientist, Traditional Owner, advocate, wildlife carer and community member who has helped make this conversation impossible to ignore.

The work continues, but today is an important step forward.

Keep an eye out for actions you can take to support this Motion. And to everyone who has stood with Animal Justice Party and supported this work so far – particularly Defend the Wild - thank you.

Back in Julimar post Christmas with family. However the Chicken house roof has been destroyed presumed that the weather had done it we have 8 chickens missing.
However waking up this morning checked to see if any of the chickens had returned, and found 2 hawks in the pen looking up they have destroyed the netting and been picking off the chickens. One knew how to get out but this one must have been a first timer as he had no idea to fly up and out. Not sure if this was a family of them and mum and Dad were trying to show this one the ropes? Both hawks were unharmed. Now sitting in a big tree over the shed.

Time to repair the roof with tougher material!
