Men’s Sheds of WA

Earlier this year, Mosman Park Men's Shed hosted its practical car maintenance course, ‘What’s Under the Bonnet and Other Motoring Mysteries.’

Among the attendees was a group of three high school students who were affectionately nicknamed ‘The Three Musketeers’ by some of the Shedders and a young botany student called Oscar.

“I thought I knew quite a bit about my car, but there are a lot of new things I’ve learned today that I had no idea about," said Oscar.

“It’s important to learn from the older generation about things like this. They’ve got experience. They’ve had problems and have seen things go wrong, so listening to them is always the best advice.”

The Shed hosts other events that have brought older and younger people together, like their annual craft market, which continues to grow every year. Dave Beckley, the creator of the mechanic course, hopes that intergenerational activities continue into the future.

“I enjoy teaching people things,” he says. “It’s good to spread knowledge around a bit. It's one of the joys of getting old.”

Padbury Community Garden Inc. is a community-led charity dedicated to improving wellbeing through its vibrant volunteer-run garden.

While it may not look like a traditional Shed, its focus on connection, practical skills and community means it is proudly part of the Men’s Sheds of WA network.

The garden provides opportunities for people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to come together, learn new skills and contribute something meaningful to their neighbourhood.

“We want to teach kids about gardening, where food comes from, get them off screen and into nature. When people don’t have family to learn these skills from, it’s heartwarming to see others in the community stepping up to share their passion and knowledge.” explains Secretary Sandy How. “It’s great for us to have some younger energy around the place too!”

Sheds Helping Sheds

It’s great to see Men’s Sheds and Women’s Sheds supporting one another!

The Mosman Park Men’s Shed recently donated and delivered some woodwork machinery to the Subiaco Women’s Shed, helping them expand their workshop and get more people involved in making and creating.

It’s what the Shed movement is all about — sharing skills, sharing resources and supporting each other.

Different sheds, the same spirit of community, friendship and helping out. ❤️

A feel good story to end Men's Sheds Week!

Thanks to the support of Rockingham City Council, Lotterywest and Hon Reece Whitby MLA, the Baldivis & Districts Community Men’s Shed is nearing completion on their new $3.5m home.

Shed Adviser Richard MacAllister says: “This has been a great group effort at local and State level. Thanks to the dedication of Shed President Rodney Woods, Secretary Aileen Kirby and their team, the Baldivis community will be so lucky to have this amazing facility on their doorstep”.

Nearly 1 in 2 Western Australians will experience a mental health challenge in their lifetime.

Launched today on International Su***de Prevention Day, The Yellow Bench Project created by Richmind WA is built on a simple idea: connection matters. It makes conversations about mental health more visible, normal and easier to have in the community.

Through distinctive yellow benches, practical resources and community connection, the project encourages people to pause, connect and check in with the people around them.

James Wild, CEO of Men's Sheds of WA said “Like we’ve seen with the Blue Trees, we hope to see yellow benches in every WA community. We hope that many Sheds will want to make yellow benches for their Shed and for their community.”

Another Great Day in Green Head, WA ☀️

Yesterday, our 2026 Shed Connect Tour reached its penultimate stop in Green Head. It was great as always to connect with the Men's Sheds in the region for a fantastic zone meeting. A brilliant way to spend Men's Shed Week 🙌

The 14th and final stop of this year takes place next month in Dunsborough - we can't wait!

Cowaramup Community Men's Shed is a great example of how embracing different generations can help a community thrive.

Many of the Shed’s founding members came from farming backgrounds, bringing practical, “rough and ready” skills. Today, the Shed has younger members with experience in carpentry and furniture making, bringing new techniques with them.

The Shed has adapted to the changing demographics of Cowaramup, which has seen an influx of young families. Thursday night sessions, which began around six years ago, attract 15 to 20 men who might otherwise struggle to attend during the day because of work and family commitments.

Now, the next generation is already being considered. The Shed is looking at introducing father-and-son workshops, giving young people the opportunity to work alongside their dads and experience what the Shed has to offer.

Cowaramup Community Men’s Shed shows how intergenerational connection can ensure a Shed built by one generation can continue to thrive through the next.
