Firstly please accept our apology for the delay in communications.

Please see below for Leadership transition and termination of CEO

The Board of Directors wishes to provide members and stakeholders with an important update regarding recent organisational matters.

Over the past five weeks, the Corporation has undergone a significant period of leadership transition and governance review.

During this time, the Board's focus has been on protecting the interests of Whadjuk members, ensuring compliance with our governance obligations, maintaining operational continuity, and restoring organisational stability.

Following a comprehensive review process and after receiving legal and professional advice, the Board has unanimously resolved to terminate the employment of the former Chief Executive Officer effective immediately.

The Board acknowledges that this period has been challenging for members, staff and stakeholders. The Corporation also experienced changes to Board composition during this time, which created temporary governance challenges.
We are pleased to advise that these matters have now been addressed, quorum has been restored, and the Corporation is moving forward with a strengthened governance framework.

Importantly, Whadjuk Aboriginal Corporation remains operational, financially stable and focused on delivering outcomes for Whadjuk people.

The Board is committed to strengthening governance, rebuilding confidence, improving organisational systems, and ensuring the Corporation is positioned for long-term success.

We thank our members, Elders, stakeholders and community for their patience, support and understanding throughout this period.

Further updates will be provided as additional milestones are achieved.

Leaders from the Whadjuk Aboriginal Corporation say the discovery of human remains on Wadjemup/Rottnest Island has reignited calls to confront the island’s largely untold Aboriginal history, despite its status as one of Western Australia’s top tourism destinations.

They say the remains are being handled with cultural care, with Elders consulted under Noongar protocols and that further investigation - including ground-penetrating radar and archaeological work - is underway amid the possibility of more discoveries.
While little is known about the individual, the remains have been provisionally named ‘Baalang,’ as preparations begin for broader community engagement and a culturally appropriate ceremony to lay them to rest.
