Welcome to our first post of 2026. We are please to share some developments at ASEAN Business Alliance.

At the end of 2025, our Founding Chairperson, Dr Sandy Chong took up a lucrative post at the World Economic Forum. Her successor, Mr Terrence Cheong, was elected at the AGM in November 2025. Terrence was also one of the founders of ABA and has been involved since its inception.. We would like to sincerely thank Sandy for all her efforts over the years to build ABA up from its humble beginnings to what it is today.

The other elected 2026 office bearers are:

President: Jenny Rose Ryall (Australia Philippines Business Council)

Secretary: Chris Moor (Australia Thailand Business Council)

Treasurer: Toto Boutdara (Australia Laos Business Advisory)

We are also pleased to welcome our new Full Members, Australia-Vietnam Chamber of Commerce & Industry, and Australia Malaysia Business Chamber (WA).

With a total of nine councils/chambers, we are indeed looking forward to greater engagement with our stakeholders at the events planned for the year.

We are proud to announce our new partnership with ASEAN-BAC at the Australia-ASEAN Business Forum in Adelaide.

This milestone recognises ABA as the first Australian business council selected to support ASEAN’s Inclusive Trade Initiative — a testament to the trust placed in our work and to WA’s growing role as a bridge for inclusive trade and investment in the region.

The Inclusivity Collective is not just about markets — it is about people: ensuring women, youth, Indigenous communities, and SMEs are all part of our future growth story. This vision has been at the heart of ABA since its founding, from our partnerships with our First Nations businesses, initiatives on Women in Trade, and nurturing ASEAN entrepreneurs and young professionals.

We were privileged to have the MOU witnessed by distinguished dignitaries from diplomacy, government, and industry — their presence reflected the very values of this initiative and made this achievement possible.

We look forward to realising this alliance and advancing inclusive growth together.

It was a pleasure for ABA and our Chair, Dr. Sandy Chong, to welcome the Bruneian delegation to Perth for the Australia–Brunei Business Networking Session, part of the Brunei Business Roadshow.

Hosted by the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the Brunei Economic Development Board (BEDB), the session brought together leaders from oil & gas, decommissioning, energy, and food sectors to explore trade and investment opportunities.

We were honoured to hear insights from H.E. Michael Hoy, Australia’s High Commissioner to Brunei, and Mr. Daniel Leong Acting CEO of BEDB, on strengthening commercial links and building sustainable partnerships.

Events like this reaffirm the strong ties between Western Australia and Brunei and open new avenues for collaboration in energy transition, sustainable decommissioning, and food security—areas critical to our shared regional prosperity.
