Borderless Friendship WA Inc (BFWA) is a not-for-profit Western Australian organisation that enhances the lives of hill tribe children in Northern Thailand. The hill tribe people live in remote areas scattered across Northern Thailand with little or no access to education. This lack of education makes the hill tribe children prone to poverty and vulnerable to exploitation within Thailand’s ubiquitous s*x and drug trade. Those who can get an education grow up able to take much better care of themselves, their families and their community (Source: UN). We support more than 450 ‘at risk’ children, most of these children have no parents or family to support them. BFWA receives no government funding. We completely rely on raising funds by selling handicrafts (made by hill tribe people), running street stalls at various markets, organising fundraising events and YOUR donations. Every cent is valuable and carefully put to best use. Over 97% of ALL fundraising goes directly to projects in Thailand. KEY AREAS OF EXPENDITURE
Education – scholarships for secondary school and university, Mooditj* workshops
Safe accommodation (so they can continue at school), nutritious food and essential clothing
* We work with hill tribe people to deliver the award-winning Mooditj program. The content includes: self-identity; puberty and caring for your body; understanding emotions; enhancing relationships; s*xual issues such as STIs; s*xual rights and protective behaviours; parenting; and identifying goals and dreams. Funding also provides food, safe accommodation, sustainable agriculture, purchased livestock for the hostels, dug fish ponds for aquaculture, placed resources in schools and built water tanks to irrigate crops.
