ANZAC Day 2026 - Overnight we joined the rest of WA Rovers in standing Vigil at the Kings Park War Memorial from sunset to sunrise. We do this every year as a way to pay respect and protect the memory of the ANZACS and all service people past and present. This morning we joined with the rest of Canning Sea Scouts and the local community and took part in an ANZAC Day march, followed by the City of Canning ANZAC Service. It is an honour to be part of this community and to play a part in keeping the spirit alive. Lest We Forget.

Over the Labour Day long weekend members of our unit attended the annual Rover Sandmoot camp in Bunbury, with this year’s theme being Toga Moot. We took part in some service helping clean and maintain the campsite. We took part in a scavenger hunt across Bunbury, with our teams taking home both first and second place. We had a great weekend full of fun, laughter, and great memories. Looking forward to next year.

Guess who’s back…👀

That’s Right! Last night the Canning Rovers rocked up to the first night back, full of chatter, catching up and great ideas for planning term 1 💃 We have a jam packed term to kick off 2026, including (but not limited to) Burgers 🍔& Fundraising, Old lady tea parties ☕️ and sailing ⛵️ Along with the exciting activities above we’ve squished in some much needed relaxing nights such as paint & sip🎨 to recover from weekends full of scouting, like Swanabout or adventurous journeys…YES you read that right, this year canning is feeling adventurous, as not one but TWO of our lovely Rovers have adventurous journeys planned for 26! 🥾⛺️

Recently two member of our unit attended the 16th World Scout Moot in Portugal. They spent 10 days exploring the country, meeting people from all over the world, and making memories. From hiking, surfing/paddle boarding and river cruises to campfire night, adventure workshops and multi cultural food night, they had the time of their lives and it is not something they will quickly forget.

FYI we still exist. Sorry for the lack of posts, but here is a little preview of some of the things we’ve been up to since we last posted. Arts & Crafts night, bowling/arcade night, weekend hike, flight club darts night, lego building night, online games night, and inter-unit Carco Polo (car hide and seek). We are cooking up some fun things for next term, so stay tuned for more adventures from your favourite Canning people.

On Monday night we channeled our inner F1 drivers and visited High Voltage for some Go-Karting fun. Which we followed it up with some fun glow in the dark mini golf.

The last couple of weeks for us has been a Collie Easter Camp where tent shenanigans were to be had and many a card game, then we gave the boot to our oldest Rover, Jessamy, and said goodbye to her youth with a shoey and finally tonight, we had an awesome in hall escape room organised by our on-loan friend, Emma (she’s been to our last two nights so she must be ours now)

2 days car hire to Penguin, Stanley and Tasmazia
2 days at Party in the Paddock/Hobart wooden boat show
2 days in Melbourne (on the 31st floor)

It was a bad day(s) to be a donut

Overland Track completed! 28th of Jan to 5th of Feb in the nick of time (one week later and track would have been closed due to fires)
Day 1- Became North end to north enders, didn't arrive to camp until 8.40PM (thanks day light savings)
Day 2- Double hut, 28km day
Day 3- Mount Ossa, excellent climb of the tallest mountain in Tasmania
Day 4- Waterfall side trips
Day 5- Pine Valley, Labyrinth showed us how quickly the weather can change when we got caught in a lightning storm ⚡⚡
Day 6- Echo Point
Day 7- Track end- North to south end to enders! Well deserved burger
