Guinea Pig Haven Welcome to Guinea Pig Haven - Where Every 'Wheek' Matters! We are passionate about giving Guinea Pigs a second chance.

Based in Western Australia, we rescue, rehabilitate, and find loving homes for surrendered, abandoned, and neglected Guinea Pigs. Our foster-based network ensures each piggy receives personalised care until they're ready for adoption. Run entirely by volunteers, every donation goes directly back into our rescue efforts. 🎅 SANTA PAWS IS COMING BACK TO GPH! 🐾🎄
The piggies have been asking, the Christmas lists are being prepared, and apparently everyone at the Haven has been very, very good this year. 👀😂
That can only mean one thing…

GPH is once again participating in The Guinea Pig Secret Santa Project! 🐹🎁✨

After taking part in previous years, our piggies are now seasoned Secret Santa professionals. Their wish lists currently contain:

⚠️🐍☀️ SNAKE SAFE PSA ☀️ 🐍⚠️

Now it's heating up, it's time to talk snakes!

Snakes are currently coming out of 💤 brumation 💤 now that it's warming up, and these legless lads are ready for a snack.

Here are some tips on how to discourage snakes slithering in your yard!

🏠 Keep pigs indoors; The safest place for your guinea pigs is indoors, especially during peak snake season. If they have outdoor playtime, never leave them unsupervised.

🐀 Remove food sources; Vermin (such as mice and rats) LOVE food, and will eat anything they find. If you have mice or rats around your property, you are inadvertently setting a dinner table for snakes.

TIP: Secure all animal feed, clean up spilled bird seed, and keep garbage bins tightly sealed. No rats means no free food for snakes!

🌿 Garden maintenance; Snakes love clutter. Keep your lawns mowed short, remove piles of wood, rocks, or debris, and clear away overgrown bushes near your guinea pig enclosures.

WHAT TO DO IF YOU SEE A SNAKE:
Snakes will be more scared of you than you are of it (mostly), snakes that have recently eaten are usually when they are most likely to bite.

📍 DO NOT attempt to pick up, move or capture a snake!
🐍 Let the snake leave on its own
📞 If needing the snake to be relocated, call a professional

🪏 In WA, Snakes are protected under the Biodiversity Conservation Act 2016 which makes it illegal* to harm or kill native snakes 🪏

* Killing a snake of the family Elapidae (venomous land and seasnakes) is authorised (and does not require a licence) if the snake poses, or is reasonably perceived to pose, an immediate threat to —(a) public health or safety; or(b) stock or domesticated animals; or(c) animals on display or held in captivity or confinement.

Got a solo boy? Please don’t give up on him. 🥺

We often hear from people who worry that because their male guinea pig is living alone, the only option is to surrender him so he can have guinea pig company.

But there are other options! 💕

🐹 Adopt him an older gentleman
Sometimes an older, calmer male can be just the friend a younger or more dominant boy needs. Finding the right personality match can make all the difference.

🏠 Foster guinea pigs to live alongside him
If sharing a cage isn’t working, having other guinea pigs living safely side-by-side can still give your boy guinea pig neighbours to chat to, watch and interact with.

✂️ Have him neutered and find him a wife
Another option is neutering your boy so that, once he has recovered and completed the required post-neuter waiting period, he can potentially be paired with a female companion.

Every guinea pig is different, and not every male pairing works. That doesn’t mean your boy is unwanted, unhappy or needs to lose the human family he already knows and loves.

Please keep your boy. Explore his options. Find the companionship solution that works for him and for you. 💙🐹
